Album Notes

"Hanson Jobb and Udo Von DuYu are two of the city's funniest fellas devoted to 'fighting with metal and loving with wood.'"
--Daphne Carr, VILLAGE VOICE BEST OF NEW YORK

"Oh, yes."
--BLENDER Magazine

PINK STËËL make heavy metal gay, and gay heavy metal funny as hell--blurring the lines between music, comedy, Motley Crüe and Mary Poppins to create a fabulous, fist-pumping arena rock concert experience that will leave you singing tunes like "We Fight For Cock" "I'm Comin' Out (All Over You)" and "Sausage Party" for days--whether you want to or not.

"Outlandish performance and inspired bitchiness."
--TIME OUT NEW YORK

" The gays from hell."
--NEXT Magazine

THE HISTORY:

Born in Bremen, Germany, Hanson Jobb and Udo Von DüYü have made good on their sacred pledge to "conquer the world, one bath house at a time." But PINK STËËL's rightful place in the great book of Gay Heavy Metal has been 20 years in the making.

"The two have made gay heavy metal history."
--INSTINCT Magazine

The flashpoint of this journey was September 1983, when founding members Udo Von DüYü (guitar, vocals) and Hanson Jobb (vocals) encountered each other in a smoky Rotterdam bathhouse/nightclub. Hanson had just finished "chatting" in the back room with several Nigerian wrestlers. A forlorn Udo was smothering his sorrows at the bar after his lover had left him for a cantaloupe with a hole cut in it. The two natives of Bremen, Germany immediately recognized each other from high school swim team. And the rest--as documented in the power ballad "Two Men Enter, One Man Loves"--is Gay Heavy Metal history.

PINK STËËL have spread the gospel of Gay Heavy Metal ever since, covering the eastern U.S., northern Europe, and parts of Estonia. With the seminal albums Mouth Full of Magic, Creaming for Vengeance, and the upcoming Out at the Devil, PINK STËËL have duly carved their names into men's room walls and into hard rock legend.

PINK STËËL: Gay Heavy Metal at its Hardest!

YET MORE PRAISE FOR THE PINK & BLACK BAREBACK ATTACK:

"Their hysterical and catchy songs meld Ozzy Ozbourne with Oscar Wilde. "
--HX Magazine

"German accents, feather boas and a lot of bitchy gay banter."
--INSTINCT Magazine

"You guys rage like boners."
--PLAYGIRL Magazine

"The logical next step."
--TIME OUT NEW YORK

"Raucously Sexy."
--Rachel Kramer Bussell, VILLAGE VOICE

Pink Steel's hugely metallic odes to brown love
author: Mark Rice

From the opening riff of 'Sausage Party', this album's intentions are clear - to rock you like a gay hurricane and leave you, quite literally, gagging for more. 'Sausage Party' wears its influences on a studded sleeve; listen carefully and you'll hear bits of Motley Crue, with a pinch of Judas Priest and a sprinkling of Ace Frehley-style spiralling guitar. 'Converter' dares to unlock the gayness that is, allegedly, in all men. Hanson Jobb's vocals on this track are reminiscent of a poofy, pissed-off Andrew Eldritch from Sisters of Mercy, with a touch of Halford thrown in when he wants to hit the high notes. 'I'm Coming Out (All Over You)' is a mid-paced rocker, musically rooted very much in early '80s Crue, but lyrically light years ahead of the Motley simpletons. How about, "I turn a room of men into a buffet," for a prime example. 'Frodonator' is the album's token dark, epic track. I can't help thinking of Spinal Tap's 'Stonehenge' when I listen to this track. Lyrically, it explores the homosexual and bestial undercurrents in Tolkien's literature. 'Johnny, Are You Queer?' is the album's Bon Jovi-esque ballad moment. Imagine 'Livin' on a Prayer' crossed with Motley Crue's 'You're All I Need' and painted pink, then you'll have a rough idea of the track's vibe. 'Cock Fight' is the gay brother of Britny Fox's 'Girlschool'. 'More to Love' expounds the virtues of the chunkier male. A Marc Bolan-ish glam sound animates the track, right down to the handclaps and chanted choruses. 'We Fight for Cock' manages to lyrically mock both U2 and Megadeth within the first 30 seconds. Musically, it's Britny Fox meets Poison. I won't spoil the wee surprise of the hidden track, but I will say that it's worth the wait. As I mentioned earlier, this album wears its influences on a studded, glittery sleeve. There are hints of KISS, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Judas Priest, Accept, T. Rex, the Sweet, Britny Fox, Poison. The album, however, manages to avoid being derivative. It melds its heroes together into a mixture that's original, loud, accessible, clever, and very, very funny.
