Pistolera is a NYC-based band the plays an original hybrid of mexican ranchera, cumbia, banda, and rock. Accordion melodies are followed by distorted riffs and frontwoman Sandra Lilia Velasquez delivers her all Spanish lyrics like a bullet to your senses.
Pistolera is:
Sandra Velaquez - guitar/vox
Inca B. Satz - bass
Maria Elena - accordion
Ani Cordero - drums
"Groove along with Pistolera, Sandra Lilia Velasquez's and Ani Cordero's funky band, which blends together ranchera, cumbia, banda and rock sounds. Velasquez's intoxicating voice and her passion while playing the electric guitar, matched with Cordero's driving drum style, make for quite a spectacular live performance." -New York Post
"The band's songs, mostly sung in Spanish mix down-home Mexican norteño rhythms like cumbias, rancheras and bandas with rootsy indie-rock." -New York Press
"Jumpy Tex-Mex polkas and dark border ballads from chicana cousins Sandra Velasquez and Ani Cordero..." -Village Voice
"Pistolera se caracteriza por su pop latino que parte del folkor mexicano recreado en el rock. El estilo con que Maria Elena toca el acordeón, la dulzura de los coros de la baterista Ani Cordero, a la vez que no descuida la relación del ritmo con el bajo, ejecutado por Inca B. Satz, hacen junto a la majia progresiva de Sandra una Buena propuesta musical." -ASCAP Latino

Music for the party after the revolution has ended!
author: Independentsonly.com
Dressed in clothing similar to that worn during the Mexican Revolution, Brooklyn's Pistolera provide the music for the party after the revolution has ended! Blending traditional Mexican music with rock and a steady beat the music swirls deep with originality. Even if you don't understand the lyrics (all are in Spanish) the way the music is shaped, makes it easy to get a sense of what is being said by the bands changes and tones in the voice of Sandra Lilia Velasquez. This bands rooftop "first gig" has proven itself to be fate as you can hear in every note. We've got your first disc, now we want more!

original hybrid between indie pop rock and good ol' mexican rancheras.
author: Ins & Outs Magazine
Arriba, arriba, andale, andale! Pistolera is firing up an original hybrid between indie pop rock and good ol' mexican rancheras. Rock-chera? Maybe not, but this release material to put your ears on, dance to its rhythm’s, rock it and even head-bang to it if you feel like it. Accordion melodies followed by distorted riffs deliver Velasquez’ thoughts and emotions like a bullet to your senses. With her fine voice and hopeful lyrics she speaks out her mind from the gut. All lyrics are written in Spanish but it’s aimed to a wide range of victims who will definitely fall by Pistolera’s line of fire. Such thing could only come out of Southern California where Hispanic folk and American pop culture share same space and time, and where San Diego born and raised Velasquez got her inspiration and merged these two genres to spread this excellent music in all directions, and what place could be more fitting for this? Yes, you said it, Nueva York
