Album Notes
The Pi Thor Project is a freaking cool endeavor. The chops are here in abundance, as is the daring spirit required to play outside standard expectations of melody. In the fusion world, anyone can hear when a player lacks confidence, but that's certainly not the case here. This music literally sparkles with color and definition. The sonic tapestries radiate vividly - a complex collage of thoughtful and well-executed compositions.

Greg Kosten, (Pi Thor) a guitar virtuoso who shines with a creative, eclectic approach toward instrumental music is progressive and sharp in performance. He is known for his articulate and rapid use of scales to soar at stratospheric levels. With stinging riffs and cutting-edge compositions utilizing electric, acoustic and synth guitars, he remains steadfast on his foundation of jazz/rock fusion with musical ideas that reach epic proportions.

Supporting and associate members are Jeffrey Moga (JAM) and Gary Kosten (Chia).

Moga provides awesome electric rhythm guitar. His riff additions are based on an infinite encyclopedic knowledge of the history of mainstream rock that contribute nicely to the overall color.

Mr. Gary Kosten solidifies the project as bass player extraordinaire. His foundation is on Michigan's powerhouse rock giants, The Hose Band, Motor City Snakes and Hanover Fist.

Special guest: Jessica Kosten, vocals.

Advanced Guitar
I’ve seen this guitarist play in Michigan and was impressed by his drive and articulation on the instrument. Not only that, his compositions are way out there! Thought provoking, with intricate twists and turns that never allow for a dull moment. Progressive jazz-rock for sure, with a sense of control that is wonderfully complex. There should be a symphony out there to copy and perform these works.

Some tracks are a journey in itself. ‘The Fermi Paradox’, ‘Ages of Thunder’ and ‘The Standing Oaks’ are the best musical guitar works I have heard in years. Acoustic scores are very entertaining. The compositions sound like Pink Floyd, Zeppelin and Pat Metheny all rolled in one.

I spoke with the guitarist about his experience and training. Long time musician, started off as a little kid on acoustic in 1969 and drums in 1970. He is a professional engineer by day. Greg mentioned that ‘Crop Circles’ is the official tune for the actual phenomena and it’s evident that some of his work carries a sci-fi flavor. He definitely hits the mark from an instrumental perspective.

17 tracks in all, offering a great variety of advanced instrumental guitar work.

Perfect blend of jazz fussion, rock, new age, and even a few funky moments...everything I like in music, with a deffinate hint of SCI-FI. I picked up many visual vibes from these tracs, and could easily put them to video. They open up the imagination, some would make great SCI-FI scores. Perfect mix for my MP3, when I'm driving, downhill skiing, or just layin around dreamin. The guitar work is impressive and impeccable, ...Bravo to this guitar virtuoso! ...cant wait for another slice of "PI-THOR"
