Planet Creature is the latest Toronto band to join the burgeoning Optical Sounds label. They are proud to premiere their debut release, referred to affectionately as "The Pigeon EP" on Sept 21, 2010.
The unique songwriting style showcased on this debut is informed by many of the different genres in rock and roll history that they dear, while keeping a foot in the door of pop and their attention on harmony and structure. The result is a unique sound, which filters their love of post punk, 60's psychedelic overtones and punk rock riffs through the unifying element of the melodies that set them apart from the fodder of the musical mainstream.
Dust Babies sets the tone with PC's trademark atmospheric guitars; Loaded aggressively thumps an anthem for those without one; Das Pirates is a tongue and cheek nod to the hits of the golden oldies; Space Country - the title says it all, a musical snapshot of a song writing style epiphany; Call The Doctor harnesses the voice of a soul whose innocence is reflected in the gentle approach to the song's production while Ain't No Other Woman is the ant-thesis to Doctor, wherein it's broken down heroine pleads on top of layers of sound, in love's death rattle.
Planet Creature - Brooke Gagne, Kristina Koski, Laura Rafferty, Goldie Saljoughi and Katerina Theodorelos - have finally found with each other the sound they have all been striving to create. Over three years since forming, PC are more determined than ever and now have all the elements in place to continue to evolve into a force whose musical breadth is unencumbered by genre or labels.
