Born in Hastings, New Zealand, but living most of his life in Auckland and currently residing in Sydney, Australia, Marc first picked up a guitar when he was about sixteen. Teaching himself chords from a mail order guitar instruction book, he soon decided that music was his thing.
Always a loner not to mention a perfectionist, Marc realised that the only way to produce what he heard in his head was to do it all himself. The days of 4 track cassette recorders have long since departed and Marc has embraced emerging digital technology as it has... emerged. "I'm a perfectionist so I'm always looking for ways to get a better sound. Actually being a perfectionist can be a pain in the Bottom and it still doesn’t come out perfect!"
Influenced primarily by melodic guitar bands such as The Beatles, Kinks, XTC and Cold Play, Marc’s music ranges from acoustic ballads to full-on-guitar-heavy-alternative-rock. “Whatever I’m into at the time."
And why not?

"Plight is the chosen name for local singer/songwriter/one-man band Marc Beasley, whose debut album is a triumph for DIY enthusiasts. As he laments - or is it boasts?- this album was "recorded and mastered in a small bedroom in a brick and tile unit in Takapuna, Auckland." Given that, it's an astonishing effort. Beasley is in the Neil Finn/UK Squeeze school of pop craftsmen and there's not a dud among these tracks! " D.O.B.

"Plight sounds like it could have been recorded by Julian Lennon or the Rembrandts, but it was recorded by a Kiwi fella in Takapuna, eh? As melodic and cohesive as any full band effort, "The Romance of Travel" was written and performed almost entirely by Marc Beasley. Impressive indeed. For having been recorded and mastered in a bedroom, the production is remarkable. Plight covers retro rock to country rock with ease, all under the "semi-alternative" pop banner. All 12 tracks here are strong, high-energy numbers with great guitaring and the aforementioned Lennon-ish quality to the vocals. Pretty classy.
