It's All Going to End in Tears

"The best catchy, twangy pop songs with the most incredible lyrics I’ve heard in ages. Every song is like a perfect little story: witty, honest, and original. The music sounds full, yet simple and clean." Laura, 1999

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In 1999, someone named Laura wrote: "Plymouth Rock is a threesome from Providence, RI who write the best catchy, twangy pop songs with the most incredible lyrics I’ve heard in ages. Every song is like a perfect little story: witty, honest, and original. The music sounds full, yet simple and clean. “Goodnight Sweet Angel” has this great dreamy, sad guitar, and lyrics so honest they kind of bite you (“This isn’t the last time that I will let you down.”) “Your Birthday” is the sweetest, cutest love song, it makes you want to grow old with someone, and to complement it “Allright” would be a great song to hear after a nasty breakup. It’s like all the advice that your friends are supposed to tell you to make you feel better. Each song is wonderfully pulled together, every piece fits into its rightful place and nothing sounds superfluous or unnecessary. Likewise, nothing seems to be missing from any of the songs. This is one of the best albums I’ve heard all year, I am completely in love with it."

From 1994 to 2002, Plymouth Rock was the loneliest band in Providence. While Fort Thunder thundered and the Loser Bar losered, the trio played sad, funny, short songs to small audiences. Supporters included Cara and Michelle of P Squared, Lizzie at AS220 and Brian of Mobees, but the band's self-defeating choices - from the horrible not-even-ironic name and humiliating onstage outfits to their reverse snobbery and inability to network with out-of-town bands - led them nowhere. They did produce two wonderful albums (which, of course, they barely distributed) and performed many memorable shows before stuttering to a halt.
