Pert Near Sandstone are four or five of the best people in the United States. They started out playing around the Twin Cities area, kicking ass and taking names. Mostly taking names - they have quite a long mailing list. Anyhoo- now they play all over and bring delight to all.

In the summer of 2003, there wasn't much for a group of friends called Pert Near Sandstone from Minneapolis and St. Paul to do. It was decided that making music would give thier creative energies a good outlet. They looked around at other musicians and saw that electric instruments are a pain in the ass, so they decided to pick up some acoustic instruments and learn 'em. And lo, it was good. By taking hit songs, fiddle tunes, and other great works and altering them to fit thier unique energetic style, the boys developed a sound that is thier own. Now having spent the time necessary to perfect thier craft, Pert Near Sandstone has emerged from the chilly Minnesota climate to present thier hard driving music to the hippies, hipsters, and people with broken hips of the world.


Their new CD, "Live-Just Outside of Sandstone" has fifteen tracks of Pert Near Sandstone doing what they do best--playing some of the most raucous music you've ever heard come flyin' off a stage! It includes two new original songs, Rounder's Blues and Summer Skies, as well as many other barn-burning traditionals. If you haven't heard these fellas yet, you'll be dancin' outta your seat...


Pert Near Sandstone is becoming a force in the Minnesota roots music scene. Their new-timey style is derived from old-time and traditional bluegrass, along with other influences spanning as many generations as it does genres... Whether throwin' it down with that distinctive, hard-driving style, or connecting with a sweet, low down flavor, Pert Near Sandstone is really working to reverse the Holcombe Flowage.
