"Needle & Thread" is an important step forward for Pert' Near Sandstone and shows that the band can do more than expertly channel standard bluegrass numbers. To use an apt analogy, Pert' Near sews together a patchwork of diverse sounds, that when viewed individually or as a whole, simply works. There are mandolin-backed ballads (Corsican Lady), catchy toe-tappers(Needle & Thread), a reggae-bluegrass fusion number (Just One Day), and my personal favorite, "Colored Aristocracy", which is an explosion of instrumental rhythm driven by twin fiddles.
I hear that the initial pressing is limited, so get it while it is still in stock. This album is absolutely worth it.
