Album Notes

Recorded live in July 1977 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium during the Indian Summer tour, The Last Roundup was the brainchild of the band, not of its record company. The recording captures Poco at a time when the music industry was changing from creative to corporate with format dictated to artists by bean counters requiring songs no longer than 3:30 and containing catchy hooks. Poco refused to play the corporate game, instead choosing material from Country to Pop to Rock and even to a little Disco. Critics claim that Poco's greatest contribution comes from blending folk and country tunes with traditional rock arrangements and combining rock tunes with traditional country arrangements. The Last Roundup drives home this point. Featuring Rusty Young, Paul Cotton, George Grantham and Timothy B. Schmit, and with a special appearance by Richie Furay, it doesn't get any better than this.

Chemistry, man, chemistry. Poco had it like no other band; the whole was greater than the sum of the parts and you can hear it here if you need any proof. Great stuff.

The live LP they SHOULD have released

Been a Poco fan since the beginning, but their live LPs never satisfied; my favorite tracks never seemed to make it to the LP. Until now. This is vintage Poco, done just after Richie Furay left the band (he appears on one track), but they prove there'll be life after Furay. The best live Poco you'll find. ALSO RECOMMENDED -- Keeping the Legend Alive, the "reunion" LP recorded in 2003.

Over 27 years, this diamond was lost. Lucky that it was found again and that we have CD Baby to make it's joy available to us. Great live album, you can feel the joy in it. The guys are in good shape and bring their love for their music in our living room.
