Album Notes

She gave me a wry little smirk the way Creature Comfort always does when I've said something silly. Her mystic goddess wisdom enveloped me like the smoke from the Marlboro hanging between her fingers. "Can I describe your music in a few words?", she parroted.

Hard gulp. Did she notice?

"Yeah, how would you describe us?", I choked.

The smirk gave way to a full smile and a little laugh, "Why do you always need a label?", she asked. "Don't answer. I suppose even Metallica struggles trying to describe what is obvious to the rest of the world." She got up and swayed over to the window the neon light from the old palm reader's shingle radiating green-blue threw her jammies. "I never use a few words when several dozen will do", she said. Creature Comfort had a way of turning a simple request into a meta-physical treatise.

She went on,"Point of Departure is a unique acoustic, lyric-free combo that generates righteous rhythms and melody soup dripping in group improvisation. Simple, no?"

Damn, she's good!

REVIEWS

A unique and gratifying acoustic experience.
author: Jason Hoffman
The quartet Point of Departure is indeed a departure of what is expected of a band. Gypsy Heart the follow-up album to their initial release Moving Parts (currently only available from the band in very limited quantities 260-432-2379) is a modern take on the rustic hoedown, taking folk, jazz, rock and traditional elements and infusing them with a keen ear for melody and song structure. The result is a unique and gratifying acoustic experience. This is upbeat instrumental (by the way all of the tracks are instrumentals so stop asking). As impressive as the melody, musicianship and arrangements are Point of Departure was wise not to skimp on the artwork. The package exudes professionalism, clarity and creativity.

Exceptional control of vivid and wonderfully textured material
author: Jack Kerley
In a world where sampling and imitation masquerade as innovation, this work stands apart: the anti-mundane. The band demonstrates exceptional control of vivid and textured material, at times slouching into blues or jazz, then diving into Gaelic or Bluegrass-inspired licks (yet every track on the CD defies pigeonholing). Though the tracks are emotionally diverse and range from introspective to energetic to joyously celebratory, the CD functions as an organic whole, no simple task. If allowed only three words to describe this work I'd have to opt for "exquisitely focused emotion." It also proves that cerebral music can not only be emotional, it can reach into your chest and grab you by your gypsy heart. I hope this CD swims upstream to spawn: we need more.

Awesome CD! Ionic disturbance.
author: Jack
Awesome CD! Thanks so much. Maria likes it a lot, too! Jeeze you guys sound good. We like the song titles and the artwork, except that one guy's head on the back is sort of distorted or bent. Was that caused by some sort of ionic disturbance of the space/time continuum which in turn distorted the matter continuance environment of the camera? Live long and prosper.
