May News! MEN WHO LISTEN (Dan's new band) has arrived on MySpace!
Here's the link: www.myspace.com/menwholisten
Dan Pokorni is a Chicago-area guitarist/songwriter who divides his time between teaching, composing and performing. After years of playing in bands, in 2004 he finally decided to buy a home studio and lay down some tracks. The result is GUITARSCAPES, which features a variety of styles including elements of rock, folk and jazz. “Shakir” received an Honorable Mention in the VH1 Song of the Year Contest (2005) and has been forwarded by TAXI. A cd of new music is in the works for 2008.
"Fans of instrumental guitar should take note of Dan Pokorni's debut CD entitled Guitarscapes. This collection of five instrumental tunes was recorded by the Chicago-area guitarist in 2004. After years of playing in bands, Pokorni wrote and recorded all of the music on the CD by himself. “Shakir” received Honorable Mention recognition in the 2005 VH1 Song of the Year Contest."
Americana Homeplace (August '07)
"The name of the album says exactly what you hear, guitarscapes. No vocals, only guitars. Layers and layers, from Celtic-like songs to country twang.
* Shakir - Celtic quality.
* Drivin' Without Lights - feels like driving in a convertible with the top down.
* Night Spring - darker element. A guitar sings, you can almost hear the words.
* Stay On the INside - images of cowboys sitting on a fence jamming.
* What She's Thinking - lullaby quality in which the guitar sings the lyrics."
Waiting For the Blackouts (July '07)
"Pokorni weaves magic with his Goodall and Hamer guitars and the overall effect is not unlike a relaxed Leo Kottke vibe with New Age overtones. A guitarist that likes to make you feel like you're sitting in his living room, playing you some sedate, intimate sounding acoustic guitar music, Pokorni is a guitarist with a bright future."
20th Century Guitar (June '07 issue)
"...a nice musical treat that can be appreciated by all but will have extra meaning for fellow guitar players who can appreciate all of its little intricacies." Indie Music Stop (2007)
"...dazzles the ears with an audible vision."
"Shakir" VH1, Song of the Year (2005)
