Album Notes

Rose, a Chicago native currently residing in Santa Barbara CA, has been described as a "cross between Leonard Cohen and Joan of Arc," and justifiably so.

Many of her songs have a dark, brooding nature to them - with rich, in-depth lyrics.

Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls attests, "No one can touch her.. Rose exists on a level all her own.. botanical love songs, dark histories.. as holy as a mystic, as profane as your perverted fantasies."

Rose Polenzani is coming onto the scene in full-force.

Dragersville is her 1998 debut CD, and it came the same year as her performances at Lilith Fair in Chicago, Newport Folk Festival, and opening dates for artists such as the Indigo Girls, Vic Chestnutt, and Joan Baez.

In August of 1998 Rose independently released her debut album, Dragersville, a self-produced collection of eleven original songs.

Since its release, she has been touring almost incessantly, making a stop at the ASCAP Showcase during this year's Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah and Chicago's Lilith Fair.

The Illinois Entertainer called 1999 "the year of this woman" in a recent article about her, and with her second album's recent, release on Atlanta's Daemon Records, it very well might be.

When someone pinches your nerve and leaves you momentarily paralyzed...

When you start listening to this CD you're thinking, ah, it is another one of those guitar-playing Jewel-wannabies, when suddenly there's a wicked twist in the melody, her voice steps out of what you were expecting and you're left wondering what the hell hit you. There is this unpredictable turn in her voice that is always on the verge of happening so that listening to the CD can not be a peacefully comfortable experience. The songs have a quality that leave your ears perked and your heart beating slightly erratically because Rose's sweet voice is like a live wire waiting to lash out.

Beautiful & haunting

I adore this CD. When I first heard some of the songs on 'Women Who Wrock' radio I found their spare sound and soaring vocals strange but gripping. It really grew on me, they are beautiful, addictive and powerful songs and the sound of Rose's voice is airy and haunting. Rose Polenzani has a unique sound. Highly recommended!
