Album Notes

Many bands have influenced the writing style of Polyethylene's music: Death Cab for Cutie, the Pixies, Radiohead, Built To Spill, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Sunny Day Real Estate, the Buffalo Springfield, and Yo La Tengo, among others. Polyethylene writes melodic indie pop/rock songs interspersed with ambient progressive instrumentals.

Polyethylene avoids typical pop formulas by consistently paying close attention to chord progressions, key signatures, instrumentation and lyrics in their songwriting. The result is music that avoids clichés while still pulling in the listener with lush melodies and catchy riffs. Most songs include countermelodies on guitar, bass guitar and vocals as well as a deliberate percussional flow to accomplish a rich overlay of sound.

Band members are listed below in alphabetical order:

Elena Proakis [12 letters] -Bass Guitar, Guitar Vocals and Flute-type-stuff*
Neal Ellis [9 letters] - Guitar, Bass Guitar, and not as good Vocals as Elena but good enough
Richard Reed [11 letters] - Drums/Percussion and does not sing...Thank God.

Since forming in 2001, Polyethylene has recorded one self-titled EP and their first LP, "Paper or Plastic," to be released on June 7th 2005. The band plans to return to the studio at the end of 2005 to begin recording their second LP.

REVIEWS

sickeningly sweet to the ear but in a really good way

this music is so beautiful it's just wrong. the vibe from this band is like tightroping across a ravine where you are gonna slip off on one side and fall into crispy, cold lettuce and the other side if gonna be warm pillows of weightless air. just buy the CD, it is not marred by human touch and floats by itself, within itself and knows only itself. for once, with a sigh of relief, an indie band that strikes the very center of what it means to be creative, artistic and crystal clean all at once. a masterstroke of hip, smooth, lush translucence? just buy the thing, your dog will thank me, since you will no longer kick it or scold it so.
