Meshing electronica, greasy funk and a dash of psychadelia with a heavy and ecle
author: Okayplayer.com
The Beyonders do have something here. Meshing electronica, greasy funk and a dash of psychadelia with a heavy and eclectic approach to hip-hop, they manage to create a progressive- not futuristic, but progressive- outing. The album, The Beyonders: Time Capsule, is strong and shows a serious and comfortable knowledge of the inner-workings of the hip-hop mind.
The message? Take it out and chop it up. The formula is too old, and we’re not having it anymore. Bad hip-hop is not saving itself from indulgent, self-satisfying mediocrity so The Beyonders thought they’d give it a try. They didn’t change the world like they so boldly prophesized. But they did change a monotonous afternoon into something interesting and provocative. This is not the canon, nor will it be any time soon. But, I promise you it is worth your time and at least one spin. Give in and explore the universe of The Beyonders: Time Capsule, a hip, hip-hop concept album that will take you places.
