“Imagine all this fuss over a toy”
(Nana, THE VELVETEEN RABBIT - 1922)
Theatre artist Kathryn Popham has been delighting young audiences in schools, libraries and theatres across Canada and the U.S.A. with her solo dramatic presentation of the children’s classic “The Velveteen Rabbit”. We are thrilled to announce the CD release of her new musical version of this famous tale.
Collaborating with composers Terry Blersh and Andrew Gilpin, Kathryn’s skillful mix of drama, original music and songs brings Margery Williams’ inspirational story to life.
Producer/arranger Terry Blersh enlisted some of Canada’s most talented musicians, as well as engineer extraordinaire Jeremy Darby (Alicia Keys, Barenaked Ladies), to create the sounds and styles inspired by the songs.
Heard on the CD are: Kathryn Popham - storyteller, lead vocals, keyboard, and flute, Terry Blersh - guitar, piano, vocals (Terry Blersh Trio), Tom Griffiths - bass (Colin Linden, Cameo Blues Band), Charlie Cooley - drums (Kalan Porter, Anne Murray), Andrew Gilpin - piano (Ebony and Ivory), Denis Keldie - piano and organ (Natalie MacMaster, Prairie Oyster), Kevin Fox - cello (Sarah Harmer, Celine Dion), Gord Myers - trombone (The Lion King, David Clayton-Thomas), John Johnson - saxophone & clarinet (Holly Cole, Diana Krall), Johnny Wright - vocals.
Victoria, British Columbia native Kathryn Popham is a renowned theatre artist living in Toronto, Ontario. Her innovative one woman shows include “Charlotte’s Web”, “The Wizard of Oz”, “The Wind in the Willows” and “The Velveteen Rabbit”. She continues to tour extensively, performing for over 50,000 young people each year.
