Album Notes

Popular Genius is a pleasant departure from much of today's popular music. The singable songwriting, upbeat, positive sensibilities, pro-level musicianship, and surprising, refreshing instrumentation make for a unique experience that remains accessible to all listeners. "With a grin and a swagger, these guys punch their way through jubilant indie pop tunes with well-stacked harmonies and bouncing arrangments" -Nashville Rage Magazine This Nashville-based 5 piece has built a strong, loyal fanbase and win over new ears constantly, ranging from middle- and high-schoolers to fellow indie bands to adult listeners to professional musicians. Popular Genius roll call: Andrew Bissell: vocals, acoustic guitar; Scott Van Dusen: electric guitar; Luke Easterling: bass; Christi Matuszak: flute, saxes, glockenspiel, accordion, etc... Ryan Stout: drums; "Popular Genius do it all with polish and panache, piling up kicky melodies and smart lyrics like pop music pack rats." -Nashville Scene Magazine Colorful, unique instrumentation has only helped to compliment Popular Genius's truly original sound- not to mention signature lush background vocal harmonies which reportedly has Brian Wilson blushing with excitement! In addition to fantastic studio work, most notably their latest release "How to be Popular", their live show has become quite a powerful draw. Known for solid musicianship, crowd interaction, and a lighthearted yet energetic atmosphere, Popular Genius delivers an unforgettable performance - not to mention intimate acoustic shows. "With a penchant for sweet pop tunes, they perform gorgeous, lush songs, complex on many levels, proving they're more than just a catchy hook and sing-along chorus" -www.delusionsofadequacy.com Some of the highlights: *Shared the stage with popular national acts such as Cake, Tonic, and Jump Little Children *Regular airplay on Nashville and regional radio *Continually chosen as "Critic's Picks" in Nashville Scene and Nashville Rage magazines *Named "Most Promising Nashville Band" by Nashville Scene Magazine *Composed original theme song for Nashville's 102.9 Buzz radio program *Represented by Wally's World of Entertainment booking agency *Performed live on several TV programs, including Fox Mornings *Bassist, Luke Easterling, featured in "Bass Player Magazine" July '03 issue

This CD is Awesome!! These guys have quite a way of using words. The lyrics on most of these songs are incredible, whether they are funny or thoughtful. Plus the guys sound great. Their sound isn't like anything I've heard before. "Best Friend" and "Mannequin" are two of the greatest songs ever.
