Portal's first EP, 'A Taste of Things to Come...' offers just that - a taste of the intensity and complexity that this talented new band will have to offer in the years to come.

The album was recorded, produced, and engineered at Pitchwhyte Studios in Edmonton by lead singer/songwriter Kenton Thomas.

It offeres a wide range of sounds, from industrial to electronic-metal hybrid, to straight up hard rock.

More concerned with writing intelligent, well crafted compilations, Portal takes its influences from a wide range of talented artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Finger Eleven, Filter, Deftones, Soundgarden, Dream Theatre, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many others.

Can I give this six stars?

Looks like you'll have to get these tunes elsewhere, but it's worth the effort. Try iTunes. (Or beg Portal to re-master these songs.) I fell in love with the band when I first heard this cd years ago. The lyrics are thoughtful, passionate, defiant; the music is complex, emotional, skilled. Like Tool crossed with Nine Inch Nails, with compassion. Do check out their latest cd, Element (available on CDBaby), which is even better than this.

Amazing lyrics, backed by incredible licks
author: Nebulus
Portal is a "thinking man's band". It's refreshing to see a band that can actually write lyrics that are cohesive, deep, and easily understood. Their musical talent doesn't stop there, but overwhelms you with beautiful, yet driving riffs that add the exra punch to the lyrics - perfection!
