Album Notes

Patty Price-Yates (always one to rush to the aid of others) came up
with the idea of a live benefit concert for Haiti from her hospital bed
in a sterile room of the Bone Marrow Transplant ward at OHSU. One of
the people she emailed was Corey Brunish who conceived this CD.
Because Yates was unable to leave the hospital to participate in a live
show, Brunish felt a CD was the way to go.
For her rendering of "You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught" he took the
recording studio to her.
Rebuilding Haiti may take up to 10 years. We hope you will encourage
your friends to purchase this CD. As long as you keep buying, we’ll
keep making them.
And we’ll keep sending money to Mercy Corps.
Thanks to all the artists who donated their time and extraordinary
talents, and thanks to you for helping bring aid to the survivors of
the Haiti quake of 2010.

During the recording sessions for this CD, someone mentioned that he
had heard about three American missionaries in Haiti who were in a
building when it collapsed. Two of them escaped. The third, trapped
inside, could be heard singing "How Can I Keep From Singing?" before he
died. Amazingly, Isaac Lamb chose to contribute that song to this CD
before he had heard that story.

Most of the songs on this CD were recorded in two marathon sessions. Each singer was allotted 30 minutes to make the their track.
At times hectic and at times moving, the scene was electric to be sure. One vocalist, who could not find the sheet music in time, sang while reading the lyrics from her Blackberry, while her accompanist played from notes made on the back of an envelope.

Jim Crino, who sings "Smile" (about smiling through even the toughest of times) knows of what he speaks. Jim is a brain tumor survivor.
