Album Notes

Jeremy and Lorraine Millington have been playing and writing music in union since 1995, and after several incarnations during the late 1990s, finally split off from their supporting band members in 2001 to work as a singer-songwriter duo. The first album under the "The Portraits" pseudonym, Kin, released in the autumn of 2006, is the result of two years' work and a number of life changing experiences. Recorded largely at their own studio in France, it nonetheless retains a uniquely British Isles slant in its at times humorous portrayal of bereavement. Keen to promote the "Music is Invisible" mantra which begins the album, they choose to remain visually elusive, preferring their listeners instead to identify with the content and cultural and age references of their lyrics and melodies. "We couldn't have created this album any sooner" says singer and writer Jeremy. "This is music for people who've seen and felt life a little."

REVIEWS

Excellent acoustic pop CD!
author: Xavier P. and RadioIndy.com
“Kin” by the alluring Portraits is a masterful acoustic-pop collection! The tracks on this CD are a combination of serene soundscapes, flowing melodies, heavenly harmonies, and memorable lyrics! “Cogs and Wheels” best shows The Portrait’s soothing and angelic vocal arrangements and harmonies. One of the most appealing aspects of “Kin” is its compelling instrumentation, namely graceful acoustic guitars and grand pianos as demonstrated by songs like “August Tear” and “Michael.” Profound, thought-provoking lyrics provide depth and texture. Quality production marked by creativity and skill places “Kin” on the top! After listening to this CD, fans of Ben Folds, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and the Beach Boys will find themselves begging for more!
