Album Notes

POTATO BATTERY Debut Release

You don't have to wait to plug into the positive side of the Potato Battery. Right from the first descending guitar chords of SEBASTAPOOL, the music moves you through changes that will have you tapping your feet, listening to the solos, humming the melodies, and generally having a good time.

Drummer Matt Ferguson's flowing style carries you easily through the five-four time of STICKY BACK, inspiring the sound with his dynamic playing. Light and agile snare work keep you swinging into POUCH, one of many Ohm originals.

Guitarists Mike Ohm and Sheldon Peterson swing and rock in equal comfort, showing you their blues influences one moment and their bebop chops the next. Both take noteworthy solos throughout the album, with Ohm contributing the occassional Van Halen-Satriani-Belew stye screaming lead, only to be counterbalanced by Peterson's harmonic bag of tricks and his tasty line playing.

Keeping you swinging in P.S. OPEN LETTER, giving you the sweet notes on LOST, and keeping you in the groove throughout is bassist Dave Blaetz. Dave and Matt work together as rhythm section in many guises, present and past, and it shows in the ease and accuracy of their playing together.

CRINKLE CUT shows the funkier rockier side of Potato Battery, as does YELLOW BOOTS and LAST CRUSADE, and the group's sense of fun shows in the tight arrangement of SPY MUSIC. The funk riff of OLD SCHOOL carries you out of this volume 1 album leaving you wishing for volume 2.

With original artwork by Mike Ohm, this disc is a beautiful package, filled with great guitar, bass, and drum playing, great writing of all-original music, and musicians who know how to have a good time playing jazz. Come and join Potato Battery in their debut CD.
