Hailing from the hills of Grand Rapids, Michigan Potato Moon is the newest group to hit the American music scene. Founded in the summer of 2001, the group blends four part “blood harmonies” with warm acoustic instruments for a textured sound comparable to Alison Krauss and the Union Station and Nickel Creek. With an incredible response to their first album (also available on CD Baby), they came together and recorded Midnight Water which was released in December of 2002.

Young and in the family way
author: RVK
If you get my reference in the title of this review, you understand why I like this band. Potato Moon has a wide and varied list of influences. I've seen them perform covers of artists diverse as Etta James, Norah Jones, Bruce Springsteen, and the Eurythmics. They are a great blend of old-timey bluegrass and newgrass. Their original songs exploit their instrumental talents and their vocal harmonies. Unlike other bands that use family as a gimmick, Potato Moon deliver. Really, this is a great CD.

I heard these guys in person and they are great. I've got their other cd also. And they are making a new one next month. They are very good. Good listening music, good dancing music.

Great CD

I was looking for some bluegrass or old time music because I could not go to Wintergrass, and I found this at your website. It is modern music, but it is also old time music. It definitely has an old time feel to it. The harmonies are great as well. I went and bought Carnival after I heard this CD.

An Acoustic Gem!!!

Upon first listening to Potato Moon's album, I felt as though I were listening to Captain Billy's Whiz Bang Traveling Music Show--part country;part bluegrass;part minstrel;part Appalachian;part jug band; part gospel, but all great vocals and quality instrumentation! Much of the music sounds as though it could have been part of the score for "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" Great old timey music!
