POWDER has spent the last year dominating the Los Angeles music scene. Known as the best live act in the city, Powder backs up their reputation with the October 2001 LA Music Awards for "Best Rock / Pop Artist" and "Best Live Show." Additionally, the Rock City News has recognized their efforts with the award for "Independent Rock Band of the Year" and "Guitar Player of the Year" (November 2001) and the NoHo News did the same with the accolade, "Rock Band Of the Year" (September 2001).
But the Powder story is not limited to the confines of Southern California. Last fall Powder was the first unsigned band ever to be included on the A&M Records compilation, A Very Special Christmas. This charity recording is an ongoing series that raises money for the Special Olympics. The most recent volume found Powder sharing a disc with other artists such as Bon Jovi, Macy Gray, Eve 6, City High, Dido, Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder, Stevie Nicks and others. Powder's TURBO POP version of "Christmas Don't Be Late" (The Chipmunk Song) not only received national airplay throughout the holiday season, but also won critical acclaim as the stand out track on the album. As their visibility grew, Powder was then asked to contribute a track for the Limp Bizkit compilation released by Cleopatra Records in February of 2002.
Never the type to rest of their laurels, Powder exposed themselves to the world last December making their international television debut on Playboy's pay-per-view program Night Calls. Originally the show's producers were looking for a band to play one song at the end of the program (ala Letterman), but after an amazing dress rehearsal just hours prior to the live broadcast, Powder was asked to play three songs during the 60-minute show. In typical fashion, Powder stepped up, kicked ass and shot themselves into 35 MILLION households throughout the US, Europe and Asia. Footage of this performance can be seen on their website www.powdermusic.com.
As anyone who knows the band can attest to, Powder does things their own way. With this mindset in place, Powder concentrated their energies towards recording during the winter of 2001 / 2002. The end result is a self-produced high octane, 11-track jolt. That's not to say the band didn't have help along the way. Co-Producer John Vitale (Republica) worked closely with guitarist Phil X in creating a truly unique sound explosion on songs such as the mind blasting Need A Little Help and the Zeppelin classic What Is And What Should Never Be. Mixer Scott Humphrey (Rob Zombie / Crystal Method) brings a full-blown punch to the hooky anthem Up Here. And Mixer Phil Kaffel (No Doubt) lends his touch on the high-energy songs Go and Red. This soon to be landmark album can currently be purchased through the band's website.
POWDER IS ...
Ninette (vocals). In early 2000, Ninette's voice caught the attention of acclaimed songwriter/producer Kenny Babyface Edmonds who asked her to sing on live tracks for the JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS movie. This was followed by in invitation to coach the film's actresses on performance skills. With extensive classical training as a vocalist under her belt, Ninette decided to follow her heart and form the Turbo Pop band POWDER. Ninette's ability to write memorable hooks and shove them down the throats of an audience with her powerful voice and charismatic stage persona have become the cascading rainbow that is POWDER.
Phil X (guitar) spent a few years kicking around the club scene in Toronto, Canada. It wasn't long before he started developing a reputation as a guitarist with some serious power behind his sound. One day, after a twist of fate, he was asked to play for Tommy Lee. The next day he was in the studio and began recording guitars for MCA's Methods of Mayhem (Dec.'99). As his name started to float around the circuit, Phil X was asked to perform on more and more recordings, including those by Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper and Andrew W.K.
Allan Hearn (bass) studied many forms of music at Hollywood's Musicians Institute. He met Ninette and Phil soon after the duo started searching for the right individual who could fill out their sound yet add to their stage dynamic. Allan was that match. The outcome was a finely tuned sonic machine with a dynamic punch.
J-Bo Dynamite (drums) Reminiscent of a pint-sized Arthur Fonzerelli, J-BO plays drums like The Fonz jumps trash cans! J-Bo's outlandish/quirky appearance combined with fierce drumming sprinkled with a thunderous playback of loops and sound effects have taken POWDER to an even higher realm of turbo pop ass-kicking. To quote MTV's Carson Daly, "I saw Powder in L.A. and was blown away ... the next wave in rock music."

Catchy, quirky and well-polished but uncompromising rock music
author: Jeremy LivittOne of the best rock CD's I have bought in recent years. This album combines great technical musicianship with a hard uncompromising rock sound. The variety of songs shows that they can appeal to a wide-ranging audience without losing the edge to their music that makes them so distinctive. All Hail Ninette, Phil, Allan and Wylie.
Great CD, glad I purchased it.
author: JTThe CD is a suprising mix of hard rocking edge melted into power pop. Lots of driving guitars, great vocals and the drums and bass are solid! Definately a great buy!!!
Sonic Excellence! Great CD!
author: Julie CanuckListened to the downloads on their website (sadly, they don't come this far north to play) ... liked them enough to buy the CD. And was not disappointed. A pulsing, rocking, energizing, driving CD with tight riffs and great timing! An excellent Friday-night-before-hitting-the-town primer. The mix of Phil's guitars, Ninette's vox and their great hooks make for an aural pleasure! Can't wait for CD#2. PS ... CDBaby is a great shop-site! Great customer service and great order follow-up. Well done, you!!

Now I understand why Powder have been nominated and won so many awards; they truly deserve what they get! This cd is one of those cd's that are so catchy, it means you have to listen to it over and over again. Once I listened to it like 6 times on repeat. Well done to you guys for making really good, well structured music; and I hope your career goes on for a long time to come!
Perfect perky album. Woo hoo!!
author: Pink CharlieThis is a great CD. It's full of energy and sets the tone for an excellent night out. I was extremely pleased with all the additional album track, aside from the single which I already loved. What a success!
Finally... a band who returns to POWER chords and ROCK
author: Bruce Lomet (CHINASKI)With killer guitar riffs and vocals reminiscent of Debbie Harry, Dale Bozzio and Terri Nunn mach 10 - Lead vocalist, Ninette Terhart ranges her voice from soft, sexy and sultry to loud, strong and dynamic, propelling the band into a musically engineered blast of high-powered, pop rock sounds. The rhythm section drives the beats into infectious grooves that will get you grooving. This is one amazing CD.
Totally superb cd, such a good band.
author: Paul MasseyIts not often you buy a cd and every track on it is excellent, but this is one of them. I love this record.
A blast of fresh air
author: Stu (UK)It's a sheer delight to find a band who not only write outstanding songs but also throw everything they've got into something they clearly believe. Everything about this album screams professional, right down to the quality of the packaging. Blows away the cobwebs of a tired music scene.
a blast of pure musical brilliants
author: geoff b (uk)I didnt find a single song on the album that wasn't amazing! ninettes vocals are AMAZING and not only that but the rest of the band are too. Powder EXPLODES!
author: Darryl TowlesSonic Machine has changed my listening habits forever. Powder is such a unique and harmonious combination of SO MANY sounds! The musicians are tight, the songs completely original all enhanced by Ninette's amazing vocals. You've never heard anything like this before. POWDER ROCKS!!! See them LIVE!
Oh, yeah
author: ZedTheKorsair at ebayCatchy, kick-ass Power-pop. Reminiscent of the best alternative stuff of the late 80s, mixed with a little "Hole" style grunge. Infectious, and highly entertaining. These are great songs that will be bouncing around in your head in no time.
One of the best CD's I own; musical with an edge.
author: J. YoungThis is the first non Go-Go's or related CD I've purchased in the last year or so - and I bought it partly on a whim. Sonic Machine is one of the best CD's I own; the band is so musical, of course with an edge. I too listen to this CD at least twice a day (if Angus Young doesn't love this CD it's only because he's yet to hear it). Every song is great; plus, it's fun to play the sixth track (What Is and What Should Never Be) for people and let them guess where they've heard it before. Can't wait to fly (2000 miles) to see them live. Do check out their website to get an inkling of their (apparently) fabulous stage show... And, buy this CD!
great music! ninette rocks!
author: laurianheart pounding beat. great vocals. lots of energy. keep it coming1

damn good album
author: Michael CameronPowder is one of the best damn groups ive heard in sometime. im sick of all the bull that is being put into the main stream music. powder is a great change and is in much need.
Their music is awesome and their stage show is phenomenal.
author: William AnayaI saw them twice at L.A. Pride and they put on an explosive show each time. Their music is awesome and their stage show is phenomenal. I bought the CD two days after from CDBaby and I have been enjoying listening to every single track on the CD. They are sure to be the next wave to hit rock music.
Ignorace of major labels
author: Doug ForsytheThis is raw, fresh and digs into your head. The people in this group appear to translate their apparent diversity into a harmonic that makes this band the best unsigned band I have yet to hear. Just need them to play some more So Cal dates, like in Orange County maybe? They rock!
Powder has so many different ranges they can reach to
author: Dexdome2All the songs are just as great on the cd as they were live in person at L. A. Pride. What a range of talent. Can't wait till the next set.
So worth it
author: BrianGreat CD. Saw them at L.A. Pride and bought the CD online the next day. Arrived the day after and I've been listening to it at least a few times a day since. There isn't a single track I skip over.

author: Chicks who rockPowder is one of those bands that grabs you by the ears sits on your face and bangs you around..until they are completey satisfied that everyone in the audience has big ridiculas grin on their face! what a show!
This disc great sounding with great songs
author: Scott WaxxLove, Love, Love, this disc. Sonic Machine is a great title song for a great disc. The production has also taken a leap forward matching the songwriting. Powder is killer live, very entertaining and energetic like their music. Seeing them at Platinum Live on 4/19/03 was proof that (after not seeing them in several months) that even their live show has somehow gone from awesome to totally fucking awesome. I don't see a ceiling on the success of this band. A MUST CHECK OUT!!!
Catchy and Addictive
author: KeithThis debut album features catchy guitar hooks and hypnotic vocals. The only criticizm is that after a while the songs start to blend together and sound the same. Overall its a great debut and as the band matures as a group we can expect even better things for the future.
Move over No Doubt!
author: pipndaleSuper meld of vocals and driving guitar - guaranteed to have your friends wondering "who is that?!" Wish there was more than 31 minutes on the cd - only leaves you wanting more! Highly recommended cd!

author: D. EctorFirst heard Powder from a friend in August '01, then saw them in L.A., have been waiting anxiously for them to put out an album since and now after getting it am not disappointed. Had a couple of people listen to it and they liked it right away.
Turbo-pop is a great word for this album. I really enjoy it. alot.
author: jeffery smithI would love to see this band in concert! I liked 7 cuts upon the first listening. That is pretty good for an album these days. They really mix it up on this CD.Not your same old same old. Ummm... she kicks high.
Why isn't this band getting MAJOR publicity? It deserves it....
author: Michael HsiehPhenomenal debut CD from this band that may be a regional hit in CA, but ought to be known nationwide! Please, come play in Manhattan and/or release a second album!!!
Thank God for Powder!
author: danielleKICK ASS CD! I listen to it ALL the time!
Missing Persons 2003
author: Todd DemersBlown away by the "Up Here" track. As far as the other tracks, they supply enough energy to light up Las Vegas. Does this look like the reincarnation of Dale Bozio and Missing Persons or what? Cool Stuff
FANFREAKIN'TASTIC!
author: Shane BeirnesThis is a brilliant first album! And, hey, Ninette ain't too hard to look at either. hehehehehe Hooky, catchy......fantastic!
Hooky, catchy, and fun without trading in its ability to ROCK.
author: Stefan GagneVery impressive stuff -- I found these guys on one of eMusic.com's compilation albums, and googled up the website. I like what I hear, and I'm going to buy this CD to support indie style bands who promote online without being afraid of losing sales to MP3 samples.
Excellent Album
author: DRSVery happy with the CD - definitely grows on you.
Perfect Powder
author: mike945i firts caught the video for 'up here' around 3 a.m. one night and i've been hooked ever since! the whole cd rocks!!!

I agree about the re-mastering ..but from what I underdstand a new record is on the way!!! that I can hardly wait for!!! so POWDER......thank you for your music and hurry up with that new record!!!!
SupaSonic!
author: D`arcy from the UKI first saw "up here" on shockwave and liked the song and video, so i got the album and was blown away the rest of the songs!! If this album isn`t in your collection then you haven`t lived! As soon as you put this CD in your player you will want to turn it up and rip the knob off!!
Pop, Rock, Alt...Whatever your flavor, this is for YOU!!
author: Larry Lammers IIWhat a wonderful debut. Hell, what a wonderful CD!! With ten (technically eleven) guitar driven tracks soaking with power-pop ambition, Powder are really going to have to out-do themselves for their sophomore set (currently in the making...YES!!). Ninette's vocals overlay the tracks with convincing attitude, but are more subdued than the guitar riffs. Solution: remaster it with her energetic utterings carrying the album rather than the rest of the band. My only real complaint is that the amazing "Monger" was only a little more than 2 minutes long!! Awesome song, over too soon. Prognosis: A healthy album not stuffed with filler (thank Moses) at a worthwhile 32 minutes, and soon we should have superstars. Buy this CD NOW. And watch the video for "Up Here" at shockwave.com. Enjoy!!
Great first album
author: Powder FanThis is a great CD. While a few songs may feel a little "thrown together". The majority of the CD consists of catchy, fun, powerful songs that are a blast to turn up LOUD while driving really fast!
Something about this band grabbed me.
author: Eric NewmanIt's fun! This band was just what the doctor ordered on a cold winters day. Great guitar tracks, great vocals, and pounding rythms to shake loose the cob webs. Now all we need are more videos - this band is even more fun to WATCH!
Prediction: Powder will be Superstars !!!
author: Keith Maxwell - KHMMultimedia.comPowder Rocks!! Their new video reeled me in and their music grabbed me! If I had any suggestion though, it would be to remaster the CD. The EQ is a little on the tinny side. Of course, that's coming from an audio engineer. Maybe it was the CD manufacturer? I still think it kicks! Call me next time. -KM
The guitar is back!
author: MikeAfter the past few years of Britney's, Christina's, and boy bands, it's great to hear a band that knows how to fill songs with energy again. Powder's music is catchy, but definitely a joy to listen to, with its strong guitar riffs and exciting vocals. Thanks Powder for an album I really like listening to.
Fresh, fun, wild, touching, full of energy, attitude to spare
author: Me@Sonicanimus.comA wonderfully fun record with a rock solid production/sound. The band and vocalist are completely in sych and they are all terrific at what they do. Some songs hit harder than others, some songs I got into right away, others had to grow on me a bit, but overall a terrific, worthwhile CD to own. Fun, wicked, accomplished and often orgasmic. Enjoy!
