Return From Catatonia is the first release from Kellie Powell.
An experienced performer and prolific songwriter, her talents are well showcased in this independently produced CD.
The 14 songs are a cohesive reflection on varied facets of life from the introspective to the humorous.
Kellie's accomplished performance on both piano/keyboards and guitar give her the ability to frame her insightful and introspective lyrics with a unique sound all her own.
This CD is an honest and beautiful work, representing a small portion of her overall talents.
We will be hearing more from this incredibly talented singer/songwriter.

absorbing title track stayed in my head...

As Tori Amos grew increasingly insular and impenetrable, a space for
women with stories to tell opened up. But Alanis was just so much empty
sound and fury, Jewel too saccharine, and the waves of female
singer-songwriters in their wake have not produced a clear winner.
Kellie Powell takes the Tori route of confessionals over piano
accompaniment, but with far greater directness than Tori ever had. The
absorbing title track stayed in my head for a really long time.

MANIC is the best song on this cd.
author: Venue
The song flows with feeling. The bass player and drummer carry the song with a simple but refined beat. (The drums are a little to light in sound but hearable). The lead guitar player has added a very polished touch to the song and the lyrics mixed with the band make you listen. The band really accentuates this performers voice .... I hope there is more of them and her to come.

This is a neat cd. My girlfriend and I listened to the cuts for review and we love the song MANIC. Does she plan on doing more stuff with the other musicians. They are awesome in there transitions ... the bass player and drummer appear to have played together for years....... very tight! The lead player has a cutting edge .... we are buying this cd.
