notes

Isn't She Still... The Pretty In Pink Soundtrack Revisited.

With the current flood of tribute albums and 80's cover CDs it may seem that "Isn't She Still" is just another one for the racks. However "Isn't She Still" is not a tribute to anything musical, but is instead a tribute to an era and a memory. The songs are not so much covers as they are reinterpretation of the classic songs from the pretty in pink soundtrack. Many of the bands never listen to the original arrangements, but chose to learn the songs from the music and lyrics. It doing so these version are the bands own, with each his own style and take on the material.
This compilation is a tribute to the era of John Hughes movies, a moment in time when angry youth took out their aggression with guitars and drums not guns and pipe bombs, but more importantly it's a tribute to the bittersweet memories of adolescents, that smile you get when you think of the silly clothes and the three foot blue mohawk. Its dedicated to the thought of in some alternate universe somewhere Phil "Ducky" Dale* still sports a DA hair cut, even though at thirty-five he'd probably be a bank executive and seeing Andie ** walking down the street makes you think "Isn't She still.... Pretty in pink."

  • Amazing!

This album is really amazing. This is definitely my favorite movie and soundtrack. It is really incredable how the songs were redone with full respect given to the originals. I watch this movie over and over and never get tired of it. I long for any new offshoots from this movie be it music reinterpretations or the "Everything's Duckie Edition" of the DVD. Thank you so much to everyone involved with this project for bringing the movie to life again in a fully modern context. Come to think of it, I believe Molly Ringwald would love this CD as she was a huge fan of the Rave-Ups, a cutting edge band of its day. Thank you again!
