Driven by aggressive and sophisticated levels of musicianship, off-the-cuff dancing, razor-sharp wit, and a love for well-crafted pop songs, Chicago-based Probably Vampires play a refreshingly diverse batch of 60's-influenced power pop, soul, funk, and blues-rock tunes that sound fresh and catchy, but still manage to swagger and sway like the barn-burning blues of old. Their quite-possibly supernatural conjuring of such timeless musical specters as The Zombies, The Animals, James Brown, The Doors, Bill Withers, and The Rolling Stones combined with their lust for current indie pop has allowed them to win over crowds in both the US and Canada who are fans of just about any breed of rock and roll under the sun.
The band's first full-length album, "Dang!, delivers on its members often-aggressive claims that they are "the best band in the world" and showcases more sides of P-Vamps' renowned classic-meets-new style than a Picasso Cubist painting. From the infectious beat of the British-Invasion-inspired "Every Single Time" and the chunky, blues-inspired guitar riffs of "Shock and Awe;" to the Brian Wilson style harmonies of "Pretty Girl Blues," the serpentine funk-soul of "Rivet Them Beams" and "Smell Your Heat," and the jazzy keyboard runs of "One More Night" and "Yes I Do;" "Dang!" is a veritable early rock/pop style manual that showcases 5 unique and meticulous musicians who aren't afraid to take familiar-sounding tunes and blow them up. Not only do Probably Vampires hit all the right notes here, but (unlike most 60's aping groups) they recontextualize these beloved genres and infuse each track on "Dang!" with the kind of modern-day indie pop sensibility that keeps them fresh and relevant for spin after spin. Don't just buy this record. Tell a friend. Quick.

Super sweet rock!

'Dang!' is one of the top five cds I've bought in the last year.. and I buy a lot of cds. It's original rock that still fits into the indie pop spectrum. I don't think I've heard anything like it before. Album highlights include 'Morning Comes', 'Spooky Carnival', 'One More Night', and the Beach Boys-esque 'Beach Blond'.

Different, diverse, and wonderful...

These guys to play all over the rock and roll map on this CD, and do it all equally well. One genre they forgot to mention was Shoegaze, which they do a fine job with on track five, "Nothing Am." This album is catchy as hell, and extremely well crafted. My only complaint is that the drums sound a bit flat...I would love to hear this album with BIG sounding drums :)
But overall, wonderful job guys! This CD feels like an unknown treasure, and I hope (and would almost place bets on) it raising your profile.
