Professor Lift advances a new, groundbreaking theory in the science of Groovology!
Into a Jam-Rock beaker, he places carefully measured parts of Swing-Bop Jazz rhythms with a dash of soulful and insightful poetic concepts and then mixes in some soaring saxophone samplings and fusion driven 6-string angst. He then grounds the mixture by folding in some ancient global melody artifacts and some "I don't care what you call it" modern attitude.
If "alternative" is a definable style, then this must be the other alternative.
The bandleader and primary composer is Rob Probst, former mandolin player for Hypnotic Clambake. Rob's lyrics have messages that are born out of his observations of the troubled human condition, but his positive take, upbeat grooves and imaginative wordplay afford a "lifted" experience.
Another Ring On The Tree offers a sampling of many musical styles in the mix, even some Bohemian scat over a hip-hop funk. "Thrace Lift" is a fiery jazz instrumental inspired by a traditional wedding dance in 7/8 time from the Thrace region of Bulgaria, known in the Balkans as "Svatbarska Rachenitsa". Soulful ballads are transformed by unique rhythmic approaches.
