We're not singing about a mystery,
We're singing songs about our history,
It's not the school of hard knocks,
It's Professor Presley History Rocks!
Filling a void where SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK left off in the 70's, Professor Presley History Rocks is an educational CD project created by a Middle School teacher in Encinitas, Ca.
This 9 song CD will help students learn (and teachers teach) some of the key lessons of U.S. History in a fun and entertaining way while listening to rock 'n' roll and punk influenced songs. The CD includes a 12 page booklet with all the lyrics and a brief historical introduction to each topic. These songs are recorded in high quality digital sound and the songs are being played on radio stations from San Diego (91X FM) to Massachusetts (Bill Childs radio show "Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child"). Professor Presley was also awarded an ASCAP Plus Award in the Popular Music category.
Warren Truitt at the Children's Music That Rocks Website said, "I’ll have to admit, when I first saw the cover of this CD and read the subtitle, “A Punk Rock-N-Roll Romp Through U.S. History”, I was very skeptical. But, man-o-man, this is an amazing album! Bill Reynolds, aka Professor Presley, has used classic punk chord changes, song structures, and lyrical immediacy to tell the story of America’s history from Colonial settlement to the Reconstruction era. And the damn thing rocks!"
This CD was recorded at Earthling Records working with their studio wizard Mike Kamoo (Kamoo recorded and mastered the critically acclaimed STEREOTYPES albums). Reynolds wrote and recorded the songs and then found a variety of singers from some of Southern California's finest rock 'n' roll bands to join in on the project.
Vocalists featured include; Charlie Ware (Lucy's Fur Coat), John Finkbiner (The Stereotypes), Dylan Martinez(Static Halo/Rookie Card), Amy Dellar (Jameson's Gypsies),
Jillian Lagasse (Chef Emeril's talented daughter),
and Dante Cante (Jersey Thursday ).
The song topics are taken from the California Social Studies History Standards for 8th grade U.S. History.
This is the first CD in a series. We are currently in the studio recording Professor Presley Science Rocks.
We are also looking for partners to launch a cartoon featuring Professor Presley in 2008.
Teachers and students should check out www.professorpresley.com for more information and teaching tools that accompany the CD.
