Album Notes
The P.R.O. is the creation of the heart and mind of Prog keyboardist Brook Hansen, formerly of the L.A. based Pop/Prog band "HUNTER". After years of touring with various acts across the globe and relocating to Nashville to tour and play his Hammond B3 with national country acts, Brook realized his true calling was to compose and play Progressive Rock, as it had been since the beginning of his musical journey in 1976 when he heard Roundabout by Yes. Brook put an ad on Musolist looking to join a PROG band in the capital of the genre-- AMSTERDAM. He got only one response-- from Tom Tutino (TNA, 3035), a guitarist in Bowling Green, Kentucky whose early influences included Kansas and Deep Purple. The response, as Brook remembers, went something like "If you don't move to Amsterdam, let's get together and play some Prog Rock". Brook and Tom were both huge Dream Theater fanatics. “Our plan was to cover D.T. songs” Brook boasts, “and even for guys with our chops, after working on a couple of complex tunes we soon realized we should spend our time writing a PROG album of our own. I don’t remember how it came about (short term memory loss!) but one day, I think it was a Tuesday”, Brook said “we’re gonna be The ‘PROG ROCK ORCHESTRA’. I called my great friend, drummer Paulie Simmons (Petra, Reverend Horton Heat), who I had toured with, knowing he was a big fan of Yes, Dream Theater and Rainbow and the right spiritual entity for the project”. After recording a couple short demos , Brook and Tom slowly created the piece, which over time became this 18 minute epic. “We went into Darkhorse studios, where Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy had recorded the first two Transatlantic albums, to record Paul’s drums. We also got the great Bryan Beller (Steve Vai, Mike Keneally, James Labrie, Deathklock) to be part of our sound with his extraordinary bass playing”. After a year or so of auditioning several vocalists to no avail, Tom said he knew a singer he had played with several years ago who might have the voice we were looking for. Tim Marshall soon became the voice of the P.R.O. We also enlisted the legendary engineer Tommy Hansen from Copenhagen, Denmark, as we loved the work he did for the Norwegian Prog Metal band Circus Maximus. We hope you will enjoy our musical journey. MAY THE POWER OF PROG COMPEL YOU PROG OUT!!!
