Album Notes

ABOUT THE ALBUM:
In his new album the Spanish project Psicodreamics carry us to another dimension of sound. It's the story about Azhdark passion. A multimedia voyage between music, images and poetry where the electronic music is humanized with a great neoclassic and symphonic way. With this CD, the musician and composer from Valencia dive in the land of dreams and myths. Following Olfield, Vangelis, Gleisberg y Boddy trails, Azhdark Passion is a marvellous album full of stylistic surprises and musical majestic moments. This album is based upon a fantasy book entitled "Night's Master" written by Tanith Lee (this female writer is considered the queen of fantasy) about the adventures and misdeed of Azhrarn, the prince of demons, who lived in Underearth and came to surface at nightfall to torment the mortals. From this magnificent book Psicodreamics took the idea of making a music work where that story, that years ago moved him, became real.

Musical Magic
author: John P. Olsen / NewAgeMusicWorld.com / NewAgeMusic.nu

Salva Moreno of Psicodreamics is the predominate musician widely recognized in Continental Europe, the U.K. and overseas markets, where his unique form of fantasy and mythology inspired discography easily creates a magical divide from many New Age artists. Valencia Spain is where Salva takes the stage to portray his principal role as Psicodreamics master of ceremonies, and into the hypnotic realm of the dark unknown. He exploits this select style of fantasy music cloaked in an intriguing shroud of mystery every time, as if he were a music magician pulling another album out of a black hat. AzhDark Passion is a project based on a novel titled Night's Master by Tanith Lee, and although composed years ago, the project is relevant today as it was yesteryear. In a surreal form of Ambient, New Age, Neo Classical, and Chill Out, with symphonic interludes, the 12 songs offer one a chance to make their own conclusions about his openly mysterious music, performed to the beat of her chilling adventurous novel. Psicodreamics beautiful array of mysterious albums make a great contradiction in sound and effect, becoming like a roller coaster ride of sensations, where you are taken close to the thrilling edge, but without the danger of losing your grip and falling into complete darkness. Title song AzhDark Passion is a perfect example since the first few measures in music immediately place you in a past century, watching a cloaked figure on a black horse drawn carriage that steadily travels past you on a cobblestone street, before disappearing into the night. The Sweetest Gift is gentle like a soft lullaby making you feel safe and sound, but a hint of mystery lurking in the shadows is waiting behind each note. Song of the Living Night conjures up much of the commingled fight verses flight feelings also, since woodwinds lull you into a relaxed state of mind by the bright melody, while symphonic undercurrents make you suddenly realize that creatures of the night may actually live under your bed. The Forge places an emphasis on choral vocals harmonizing in unison, while percussion timpani drums add precise measurements of rhythm as if an alchemist were adding ingredients to a copper caldron. Morning Light features Priscilla Hernandez in contrasting female vocals to become the silver lining in this song, blending with generous percussion and sound effects full of mystery, in a rhythmic pace that balances together quite well, considering colorful vocals are encased by darker images from the distant past. Electronic in New Age music plays many roles, and the select role of mystery and imagination Salva Moreno performs as a musician, is composed using an effective sleight of hand that magically transports you into a world of fantasy. The Ambiethernum album is a compilation of Psicodreamics best Ambient and Space music from his many projects to date, and is a great way to discover more about the magic behind Salva Moreno.

full of beauty and mystery
author: Hector Jordan from Amazing Sounds e-zine

Psicodreamics offers in this album a collection of romantic melodic compositions that confirm it in his position as a highly talented composer. The artist offers us his mastery at creating a work full of beauty and mystery, with themes that in some occasions tend to be of a melodic romanticism, while in other instances they have an enigmatic, or even a dark air. A general trait of the album is the fact that the music happens to be very intense, vital, as if reflecting strong emotions. All the themes have been composed by Psicodreamics, except for "The Garden of Strange Beings" (Psicodreamics & Alidan) and "Morning Light" (Psicodreamics & Priscilla Hernandez) The ethereal vocals provided by Priscilla Hernandez in "Morning Light" contribute in a remarkable way to make of this piece a true delight for the ears. The grandiosity of the music and its symphonism make of the listening of "Azhdark Passion" a complete experience. Psicodreamics has released such an extraordinary album that it cannot but awake enormous expectations on what the musician will be capable of doing in the future. No doubt, this album is highly recommended to those who seek something more on the line of current New Instrumental Music.

music suffused with passion and feeling
author: Bill Binkelman from Wind and Wire e-zine

Salva Moreno, an Spanish artist who records under the pseudonym Psicodreamics, really loves to paint his soundscapes on broad lush romantic canvases, using an assortment of neo-classical, new age, and subtle EM musical "colors." On his latest effort, Azhdark Passion (inspired by a Tanith Lee fantasy book entitled Night's Master), Moreno continues to tweak his formula from previous efforts (such as Eternal Angel and The Garden) both artistically (focusing more on proficiency within a few genres and less on variety) and technically (his keyboards have never sounded better, be they overtly electronic or sampled instruments). The artist can still over-reach his ambition, but that's a sign of his abundant vision and less a sign of a lack of talent or skill. For the most part, the music on the CD is warm, romantic, and decidedly melodic, sometimes centered around piano as the lead keyboard, although the opening title track uses powerful trap-kit drums, choirs, and synth washes to great effect in creating a dramatic thundering beginning to this somewhat thematic recording. While some songs, such as "The Sweetest Gift," (comprised of twinkling bells, harpsichord-like keyboards, harp arpeggios, and softly sighing chorale effects) or "The Sorcery" (containing strings, whooshing keyboard washes, angelic choirs, and cascading synths, yielding to powerful timpani and rolling piano) land squarely on the new age music side of things, other tracks skilfully introduce strong classical influences (such as the use of more orchestral-flavored strings and solo oboe on the somber "Song of the Living Night"). Songs vary from romantic and almost cheery to being darker-tinted, sometimes even within themselves ("The Garden of Strange Beings" starts off foreboding but becomes light and airy before long). On "The Forge" a blend of floating EM/ambient washes and sequenced notes constantly duel with dramatic pounding timpani and snares and forceful choirs (the artist has a real thing for bringing his drums to the forefront but not overdoing them). "Floating in the River of Souls" unfortunately introduces some misplaced female and male vocalizing (they may fit "thematically" but they seem out of place on an album which has previously emphasized refinement up to this point). Thankfully, they do not last long and the piece becomes a mixture of sedate piano and an assortment of new age-style keyboards, all done low key in keeping with the song's title. Disregarding the literal last track, a vocal number titled "Morning Light," the album ends well with the gentle, restrained and somewhat sad instrumental track "Missing U." Don't misunderstand me, "Morning Light" is a fine song but simply does not belong here as far as I'm concerned. Moreno continues to hone his talent and skills in composing and performing new age electronic music with strong romantic and neo-classical underpinnings. Azhdark Passion is his best recording to date and shows his developing maturity and sophistication without losing his unique vision of music suffused with passion and feeling.
