Virtual Vampire
author: John P. Olsen / NewAgeMusic.Nu
Salva Moreno from Valencia Spain, having the artist title Psicodreamics does not believe in real life vampires, but only conjures up fantasy and mythological inspired music for our entertainment purposes only. For example Theatre des Vampires from 2006, on his Witches on the Radiowaves label, provides the creative blueprint to project intriguing images into the darker realms of the supernatural. Theatre des Vampires is laid out as a psychological thriller, portraying these images in classic form by a fine mixture of New Age, Ambient, Chill Out, Neo Classic and Gothic formats. This is not a rare occurrence for this composing musician who has 9 projects specializing in fantasy and mythology tales, all of which are well done. This album portrays a mystic cloak and dagger sound design with all of the thrill and chill musical effects to keep you in suspense, along with some of the sharp pointed edges you would expect from an album having a mysterious theme about vampires. The album title song Theatre des Vampires goes directly to the throat by injecting a heart throbbing tempo with a hypnotic feel using a duel guitar and piano arrangement. This song is laced with theatrical drama by the eerie piano strokes that appear to compete in a battle of wills with the rival guitar melody, parlayed as if reaching out for every strained note within reach. The synthetic percussion effects of woodblock, tenor and bass drums, share character roles on the stage with the tympani drum’s surprise entrances that occur when you least expect it, but in perfect timing given the songs unsettling subject matter. The song Daylight Belonging is Classical Goth, transporting you back to a period in antiquity when the world was believed to be flat, and well intending physicians prescribed bloodletting as standard medical practice. This mystic piece exploits a provisional piano and guitar duet to create subliminal elements of the supernatural, conjuring images in this fictional fantasy world. When veiled choral vocals echo through out their nightly refrains, an apparent struggle of give and take between piano runs, strings, and pipe organ instrumentals occur at the least expected moment. Bold percussion with cymbal entrances give off a dark hissing sound behind pauses in the primary piano melody, as tympani drums lightly pulsate in a cardiac like rhythm during this eventful episode. Each of the 11 songs in this project embrace musical elements full of surprise and drama as described by their individual cryptic titles. Salva has a unique approach for producing designer mood music using a macabre blueprint, all with an abundance of theatrical effect shown in a dramatic way to leave you breathless.

"it could be compared to a soundtrack for an Anne Rice novel"
author: Jacob Bogedahl (Gothic Paradise e-zine)
Psicodreamics is the solo project of Salva Moreno. In this project he uses various genres in creating instrumental music capturing styles from dark ambient to upbeat synth and EBM styles. On this, his sixth album, Salva captures much of the darker and emotional side of the musical spectrum on this concept album revolving around the music of the night and world of vampires. Maybe it could be compared to a soundtrack for an Anne Rice novel, or just mood music for a dark night, in either case the soundscapes are captivating throughout the eleven tracks that last nearly an hour in total.
The album starts off with "Damned for Eternity" which is the perfect dreamy introduction to this album and easily a favorite through the use of the pulsating synthesized strings and somber beat. All of these ambient soundscapes make this piece especially dreamy and soothing. This drifts off through to the title track "Theatre des Vampires" which brings to light more of a new age feel with the included guitar and simple beatmachine drums. The piano, occasional pipe organ and ambient synths are mesmerizing and an added bonus to the track. This pipe organ becomes more and more prominent throughout many tracks, including "Delicious Agony of Love" and "Daylight Belonging", accenting the darker sinister side while still remaining beautiful and uplifting in so many ways. These move along in similar style with the new age style riding atop the dark and mysterious overall ambient moods. The composition of "Delicious Agony of Love" delves a little more into the ethereal dreamscapes with choral synths and soaring guitar making it a favorite and should appeal more to readers and listeners of Gothic Paradise.
The album drifts along through the ambient moods across several captivating tracks, ebbing and flowing through the dreamy soundscapes. The titles describe the moods perfectly as we drift along through "A Life in the Night", "The Crypt of Despair" with the hypnotic moods and on through "Stakes and Garlics" and finally to "Lustful Bites in the Dark". The piano on this piece comes out very strong and beautiful, using textures that are uplifting and superb while remaining with a certain dark aura. This provides a perfect segue to "Sanctuary of Blood", an upbeat semi-industrial piece with distorted bass drum, although the mix of new age and industrial seems odd and not an intuitive mix at first listen. "Bloodsucker" winds this down slightly providing a nice bridge into the finale "La Valse des Vampires". This final piece is a beautiful waltz composed of just about every element previously used on the disc with the addition of notable harpsichord. All of this brings out the feeling of being in a haunted Victorian waltz, spinning round and round, captivated by the magical imagery of the music.
Hopefully this description helps the reader understand what this album contains. While it has a heavy new age influence, I feel that it has many elements that will appeal to fans of ethereal, gothic and ambient music. The overall production is excellent and seems well done without being too cliche with the theme and title of the album.

"...the magic flow that impregnates the sound and makes you feel shaking as when
author: Luis Masia (composer and fan)
"Thanks to your last works listen I have discovered what means "Gothic Ethereal Music". I did not pay any atention at a first glance to this style because it suggested me just another temporary fashion. But in your music it happens the same as in the Telluric places, like Stonehenge, Notre Dame or Montserrat, where with different architectures, ranging from a single circle of alinged stones , up to the most beatifull Gothic or Romanic, the important is not in the form or in the architecture but in the magic of the place itself, that most of the people perceives. So in your music and style the important thing is not the musical form, but the magic flow that impregnates the sound and makes you feel shaking as when you visit magical places."

With Theatre des Vampires, Salva Moreno has come up with a new classic in terms of European modern conceptual electronic music. The subject is exotic, and the sound conjures up an audio-erotic vibe. It’s filled with layers of lush mellotron, melodic piano themes, dramatic synthetic backdrops/ guitar lines and powerfully rhythmic arrangements alternating with ornate instrumental interludes. The entire album is mesmerizing and enchanting.
