Album Notes

TranceMutation - TranceMutation - TranceMutation - TranceMutation -

Psyclone consists of Ray and Fran Perry.

They met in August 1999 at one of the last free festivals in England, Exodus.

Their paths crossed again a few weeks later at a party in York.

After seeing each other for just a few weeks Ray moved in with Fran and they have been together ever since.

They married in August 2000.

Ray had been playing and performing music, professionally, for many years before joining up with Fran.

From pubs to stadiums, from folk to rock, with everything in between, his experience was wide and varied.

He had also produced several albums, including his own solo album 'Common Knowledge'.

Fran,on the other hand, had no musical experience beyond a love of music.

She did however have a state-of-the-art computer, which she knew how to use, and a fascination for trance.

Ray initially suffered from a bad case of techno-fear but with Frans patient guidance he soon overcame it and then realised the potential power of the computer to compose music.

Bringing together Rays musical talent and Frans computer skills was an inspiration.

It was at this time that Fran took Ray to his first trance rave. They went to Leicester to see ManMadeMan.

It was after this experience that the formation of Psyclone and the first stages of the album,'Spaced', began.

As the album progressed it became more and more demanding.

Ray gave up his job to concentrate on it full time.

A back room of the house was converted into a studio by Steve, Frans brother, who also did all the artwork for 'Spaced' and who is an invaluable third member of the team.

After 2 years the album was near completion.

At this point financial pressures came to a head, there was no money left to master and manufacture 'Spaced'.

They had no record deal and no sponsorship. They had been lent £5000 initally but now had to pay that back as well.

aaaaaaaggghhh! In fact Fran and Ray had already decided to sell up , buy a bus, and take 'Spaced' to Europe. They used the money made from selling the house to pay back the £5000 and to manufacture the CD.

'Spaced' was mastered at Hilton Grove Studios,London, by Graham Hardie.

The project itself was gathering interest.

People were getting into the music and were amazed and intrigued by the idea of taking it on the road long term.

The idea being to promote Psyclone in as many countries and to as wide a range of people as possible.

Soon more and more people became involved. Many giving their skills and time freely.

Thanks to all their help Psyclone were soon on the road.

They now travel in a huge silver-grey Gulfstream 2000, an American built road-vehicle (she's a big girl!), they also tow a small white jeep.

Psyclone are currently residing in Spain (in various places) promoting 'Spaced' and writing new material.

To support themselves (and 13 year old Ben) they do DJ sets, juggling and fire chains, a UV alien show and of course they do live gigs. For good measure they also have a bouncy castle.

About the Album 'Spaced' has both a strong rhythm and an ethnic flow with both electronic and acoustic sounds. It captures the imagination with powerful sequences and some classically arranged pieces.

It has humour and character, but is not for the faint-hearted.

It is trance in a new form, it is Classical Trance.Try to imagine Beethoven on acid!

The listener will be pulled into over an hour of compelling music that will reach them on many levels and that will inspire a rich tapestry of images.

Don't misunderstand, this is not 'hippy' music, this is definitely music of this age, a psychedelic feast for the new millenium.....Enjoy.

REVIEWS

Psyclone has concocted a catchy disc of goa/psychedelic trance.

Dark but perky, like morning coffee. Psychedelic but friendly is Spaced, a happy release of goa/psychedelic trance.A fast but not heavy beat with a touch of mellowness on some tracks and some acoustic elements. Psyclones Spaced is a talented addition to the goa canon.
