The sounds on this landmark Publick Musick recording are nothing short of ethereal. Recorded in 2002 at St. Mary's Church, in Cortland, New York, this music resonates through the beautiful cathedral space. When you hear these choral and instrumental works of Gabrieli, Marini, Cavalli, Castello, Merulo and Monteverdi, you will be transported to a 17th Century European Christmas service. Says Ben Ohmart of the Muses Muse:
?It?s always lovely getting a Christmas CD well ahead of time ? that?s how most of them come. As the colors of autumn begin to twirl and change and fall, the hope that a wondrous choral album like Aural Borealis creates is a chillingly peaceful ebb of gorgeous classical sounds that even the most idiotic of minds, like myself, cannot help but smile upon.
Recorded in St. Mary?s Church in Cortland, New York, the sound is more superb than one would think comes from a church. But this church has a studio sound, filled with rather flawless playing, chamber work that one would expect more from a Naxos catalog than an ? indie release.
The tracks shine in the Baroque tradition. And Christmas will come every time light hits the grooves. You won?t be disappointed with it.?
