The five piece is comprised of Jake Poindexter on vocals, Joe Altamirano on rhythm guitar, Aaron Pappas on lead guitar, Daryl Naef on bass, and Carl Chang on drums.
Rising from the ashes of an ailing Power-Punk scene in Sacramento, Pummel has emerged as one of the most exciting and diverse acts in the city. Blending elements of melodic punk, metal, and alternative, Pummel released their debut untitled EP in August, 2001 to rave reviews. Their single "I just want to get you in bed" has been featured on KWOD 106.5 and was selected for 98 Rock's "SacRocks Volume 8" CD (A local compilation benefit for charity), and were featured on the cover of "RANT Magazine" in August, 2001. Pummel is currently touring the northern California area and compiling material for their first full-length record.
The band originated from highschool friends whom all shared a common passion for music. Joe and Jake were old friends and became roommates a few years after highschool. They had both played in a band during school, but never took it serious. After a few months the two began inviting various friends and family over for jam sessions. The two quickly realized the potential to start a real band and soon began recruiting: Joe's cousin Daryl (who owned a bass, but didn't really know what to do with it), old friends Travis (original guitarist) and Carl (drummer). Weekend jam sessions grew into weekly practices and eventually complete songs began to emerge. Once the group had accumulated a few songs, they decided to give themselves a name and wanted to try their luck on the stage of a once prominent club in the outskirts of their hometown: Bojangles - Sacramento, CA. The show proved a success, and Pummel was born.
In December of 2001, Travis parted ways with the band, leaving Pummel idle for the next two months. Then a long time friend of Carl, Aaron came to the rescue. The two had been in a band several years earlier and picked up right where they left off. Through the ups and downs, Pummel has embarked on a journey that has yet to be concluded.
