Peter Pupping
Born in 1960 in the Netherlands Peter immigrated to the United States with his family in the early sixties. At nine years old he began his guitar studies. Beginning with classical guitar lessons and a steady diet of music from the sixties Peter's love for a variety of music began early on. Through the teen years Peter played in rock bands and continued to develop his love for the Spanish guitar. By the age of twenty he became a music major in college and got very serious about music.
Peter is a multifaceted musician wearing the hats of performer, educator and music producer. He directed the Mira Costa College guitar program from fall of 1987 through spring of 1999 and since has been teaching privately and directs “The Encinitas Guitar Orchestra”www.encinitasguitarorchestra.com in Encinitas, California.
As a performer Peter frequently performs as a soloist and with various ensembles and leads the Peter Pupping Quartet on the Guitar Sounds label. The quartet appears in concert regularly and performs classical & contemporary acoustic music including; world music (Spanish, Pop Flamenco, Brazilian Bossa Nova, Samba, Irish), light jazz and popular hits.
Besides regularly performing for almost every major corporation in the United States, notable appearances include performing for dignitaries and VIP’s such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Joan Embry, Beatles arranger George Martin, Pat Benatar, The Beachboys, Tim Conway, Jenny Craig, Ed McMahon, Irene Valenti, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steve Forbes, Rodger Hedgecock, Rev. Robert Schuller, Dick Enberg, Frank Gifford, Secretary of State George Schultz and more.
Peter has been invited to perform and open for groups like Spyro Gyra, Joe Walsh, Michael Hedges, Ivan Lins and William Aura of Higher Octave Music. Education
Bachelor's and Master's of music degrees were earned from San Diego State University where he also studied with Robert Wetzel, Brian Kilmer and Celin Romero of the internationally known Los Romero's Guitar Quartet. Additionally, Peter has participated in master classes with Pepe Romero, Christopher Parkening and Scott Tennant. His traditional classical guitar focus was broadened through jazz studies with saxophonist Charles McPhearson, bassist Gunner Biggs and pianists Art Resnick, Ivar Antonsen, guitarists Charles Wheeler, Andy Riley, Mark Shapiro, Peter Sprague and Bill Coleman.
Fred Benedetti
Fred is a professor of music at Grossmont College and San Diego State University. He is a recording artist and maintains a very active performing schedule as a soloist and as a member of several noted chamber and jazz ensembles. Mr. Benedetti has performed on the stage of the Old Globe Theater under the direction of Tony award winning director Jack O'Brien, the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Opera, the American Ballet Company, Luciano Pavarotti and jazz artist Dave Brubeck.
He studied guitar with Roberto Torres, Christopher Parkening, Celin and Pepe Romero. Most notably, Fred was chosen from a worldwide audition to perform for Maestro Andres Segovia in an international master class in 1986. Fred is also active in contemporary music and has been featured on numerous CD's, film soundtracks and TV commercials.
Mr. Benedetti's repertoire includes guitar music from early Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Twentieth Century as well as Latin and contemporary jazz and Spanish flamenco.
