The "Work Sucks EP" beats up your stereo speakers with three noisy songs of anger and frustration. Pure Ed is the music of Jason Cope. Many people do not like it. In fact, many people hate it. They hate it so much that Jason has actually been beaten at shows for playing his songs. One time he was beaten so badly that he woke up in the hospital. Why does this happen? Is it because the music is bad? Is it because the songs are vulgar? Not at all. It is because the songs, the words and even the person creating them are different - honest - unashamed. Sometimes a different view can be dangerous. That is the story of Pure Ed.
As long as I have known Jason, he has had no interest in creating polished, commercial music. He has had no interest in catering to the general public. He's not concerned with pretty album covers or glossy promotional pictures (or websites or the Biography page - which is why I'm writing this). What you hear from Pure Ed will not be clean pop music. It is, however, some of the most heartfelt music that you will ever hear. Many people don't understand it and don't like it, but for the few who do, it has given a signal of hope in a world of conformity.
Taking a cue from artists like Kurt Cobain, Jack White and Bob Dylan, Jason writes music for himself and whoever wants to hear it as it is. There is no compromise. There is no fluff - just honest songs about life as he sees it. He has told me that he hopes people will listen, but if they don't, that's fine. The songs will still be there and he will still play them.
