Album Notes

Put Down the Muffin is a modern-fusion/noise-rock band made up of four seasoned musicians from the Minneapolis area. Their sound is nearly indescribable, but draws from influences like Medeski, Martin and Wood, Galactic, Club Delf and Soul Coughing. Some of their songs are tripped-out instrumentals that weave in and out of time signatures, while others are gigantic rock tunes complete with three-part vocal harmonies. Either way, crowds get entranced by their extended noise-solos, funny antics, and vicious grooves. The band consists of Bruce Balgaard on fretless bass, Matt Patrick on guitars, Charlie Peterson on keyboards, and Zach Miller on drums. With these instruments (and a sampler under each arm), Put Down the Muffin creates a musical experience completely different than the last.

On the first few listens, I found the first 2 songs to be my favorites. When I read about the 4 'looped' tracks, I programmed only those tracks and put the CD player on repeat, and got a whole new appreciation for the album. I'm glad I found this CD and highly recommend it. I find myself singing 'Tribute To Bunyan' from time to time.

This Cd is a must have. "Dancers, dancers, dancers...." This CD covers a huge amount of musical space. You'll never think of Paul Bunyan in the same way. Fun grooves, great tunes and awesome lyrics make this one of my favorites.

The muffin are amazing musicians and showcase that along with capturing the spirit of their live shows on this their debut CD. Bruce Balgaard & Zach Miller lay down an incredible foundation for Charlie Peterson & Matt Patrick to play around. They definitely know how to have fun & yet rock your head off! If you haven't purchased the CD, get today and make sure you look for a live show of theirs to check out, you won't be disappointed.
