Album Notes

Dave Puzak is a multi-instrumentalist and singer who, besides making music of his own, has established himself as a diverse, eclectic, collaborative, first-call side player. Puzak has quickly proved himself as one of the community's preeminent musical artists. He is well-known for his consistently outstanding gigs with acts Funk Eh!, Adam Miner, Josh Seller (Canadian Idol), and Driving Lester.

Much of Puzak's off-stage time is spent producing and recording in his personal basement studio, which he affectionately dubs The Jamnasium -- the place where his first effort, Yesterday Was Just a Dream was recorded. Aside from composing his own diverse work, he has engineered, co-produced, and performed on Canadian Idol finalist, Joshua Sellers' debut album 'Starving for Attention'. Puzak was a co-founding member and songwriter of the Sarnia jazz/fusion band St. Helen's Alumni; their two EPs, True High Fidelity and Code Red, highlight Puzak's formidable musical aptitude. It is no surprise, then, that Juno Award winners Miranda and Latoya Walsh sought his talents for their song, "Beautiful Stranger."

Furthermore, Puzak has worked closely with Slakah b. Byram Joseph (Phase One Studios, Beatchild Productions) and has also written music, on more than one occasion, for TV Ontario and Green Party. Most Recently, Puzak has joined forces with students at Sheridan College in Toronto, Ontario in an effort to expand his repertoire into the world of film scoring and plans on furthering his pursuit in composing and orchestrating contemporary film music.

Rather than limiting himself to a single genre, Puzak skillfully manipulates a wide range of the modern musical spectrum. For instance, his most recent project - a full length album entitled "Yesterday Was Just a Dream" - deftly blends ear cathing harmonies with rock sounds to create a playfully quirky power pop formula. The album can be ordered online at cdbaby.com or purchased locally at Sam The Record Man.

Creative blend of rock and pop music!
author: Clarence Lee

Dave Puzak’s album ‘Yesterday Was Just a Dream’ is a creative balance of pop and rock music genres. The songs blend the elements of both genres to produce an easy to listen and fresh selection of compositions that reflect the theme and mood of the lyrics he is conveying. Sometimes mainstream rock and pop music can be aggressive, wild and hard to listen. The album avoids the typical tunes of these genres that make them sound like “everyone else’s music” and offers a balanced and vibrant set of melodies while maintaining an upbeat and lively feel without insulting the ears or boring the listener. This album is recommended to those who want to listen to something unique instead of the same tunes found in mainstream music while keeping an interest to rock and pop music.

Dave Puzaks first CD, "yesterday was just a dream" offers a glimpse of this unique songwriters talent. The self-recorded, self-produced album offers a variety of sounds, ranging from melodic ballads to up-tempo pop rock. The most powerful song is the title track, an undoubtedly moving song about coming of age. Many of the songs focus on lifes important relationships and are presented in a manner you would expect from a poetic mind. This album is a good listen for anyone who wants to explore and support hardworking, up and coming talent

Yesterday Was Just A Dream is so fun! It has an upbeat sound that will get you singing along, while throwing in the mellow songs at just the right moment. Dave’s vocals are pleasant to listen to while still maintaining a contrast through his many different styles. It’s rock, but it’s never too harsh. The chords are sometimes surprising, keeping you on your toes! Dave exhibits his wonderful musical visions and talent on this album, and I’m looking forward to hear his next recording!
