ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
PVR-Jazz Quartet is:

Andy Jaffe, Piano
Genevieve Rose, Bass
Tom Briggs, Drums
Jake Epstein, Alto Saxophone

"Reunion" is dedicated to University Of Massachusetts Music Professor Dr Frederick C. Tillis.

Initially conceived as a vehicle to feature various saxophonists that have influenced Jake Epstein’s development, the album also features two originals. Thought’s of You by Tom Briggs reflects on his wife and family while he was away on trips touring with the Coast Guard Band. Silence for Mark and Helen was written and then performed at the 2009 “Jazz in July” summer program at UMass for Mark Basak and Helen Perry. Mark served as Administrator for “Jazz in July” and died in 2008 and Helen served as UMass Music and Dance Department Office Manager and died in 2009.

The Alto Saxophonists as listed in the order of the songs recorded are:

•Getting Sentimental Over You - Sonny Stitt
•Jive Samba - Cannonball Adderly
•Polka Dots and Moonbeams, Lou Donaldson
•In A Melo Tone, Johnny Hodges
•Speak Low - Jackie McLean
•Now's the Time, Lover Man, Little Suede Shoes, Charlie Parker.

Two additional Alto Saxophonists that were not included but worthy of mention are Paul Desmond and Phil Woods.
