HEARTHEARTHEARTH, Brian Cutean/QTN's 5th CD, features eleven songs of acoustic energy, musical alchemy and imagination.
QTN is a many-faceted minstrel, a teller of wild tales filled with wordplay, wonder and colourful guitar chops, an award-winning songwriter-performer and an unusual and thoughtfully real voice in these times of mass-produced, disposable music.
With a musical blend of thought-provoking, entertaining and otherworldly songs, psychoacoustadelic gypsyhooplafolkmedicinemojobop and animated performance energy, QTN reaches all ages of audience. His records garner enthusiastic airplay nationally and internationally.
Brian was co-writer on Willy Porter's single "Unconditional" (featured on "Willy Porter" and "High Wire Live" on Six Degrees Records).
These days based in Oregon's Willamette Valley alternating between Portland and Eugene, born and grown in the Chicago area soaking up blues and the acoustic folk scene of the late sixties and early seventies, seasoned by 15+ years in Austin and Central Texas and steeped for 15+ years in the Pacific Northwest, Brian is a performer who gets around.
With incisive, colourful lyrics of wild poetry and wordplay, engaging stories and "wordless" guitar instrumentals, observations and lyrical rhythms work together celebrating the mental environs as well as environmentals.
Here are press comments about HEARTHEARTHEARTH:
Hearthearthearth shows Cutean's prowess as a master of wordplay with an unusual and thoughtful approach to enlightening the consciousness of his listeners...
Vanessa Salvia, Eugene Weekly
Brian Cutean is a freethinking soul who has carved his own path in this world for more than four decades. While the artwork on his website may not be conventional or restrained, the music of this latter day wandering, (mostly) acoustic minstrel more than honours the Folk tradition... Cutean is an attentive watcher and custodian of the natural world...
Arthur Wood, Folkwax
Hidden in Hearthearthearth's convoluted title, though, are clues to Cutean's subject matter: heart (the personal), hearth (community) and earth (global environmental and political concerns). With Cutean, whimsy isn't window dressing, but an overarching artistic philosophy....
Jeff Rosenberg, Willamette Week
This energetic, life-loving, contemplative and extremely well-recorded CD marks another meaningful progression in the career of Brian Cutean as one of our leading contemporary songsmiths and music makers... [It is] a genuinely fun recording that is clearly a team effort and should resonate with visionaries and lovers of healthy music everywhere. Themes of personal enjoyment, the beauty of nature within and without and a feeling of hope for the future is delivered in a friendly non-preachy manner.
Percy Hilo, Victory Music Review
This is a melodious mix of his Romanian gypsy heritage punctuated here and there by harmonica doses and even an occasional croon. Don't blink. QTN, as he often signs his name, has tossed another anagram into the chat salad, offered up an oxymoron, perfected a piece of palindrome pie...the Tom Robbins of folk music...
