Album Notes

Queen City String Band has been playing hard-driving old-time music since around 1982. It was then that Jim Johnson and John Bealle began touring old-time dance groups throughout the eastern states of the U.S. Since then, we've all settled in or near Cincinnati, Ohio--the Queen City!

The band features John Bealle on fiddle, Jim Johnson on guitar, Eloise Clark on banjo, and Chris Haas on bass. We play regularly for dances and other venues in Cincinnati and occasionally travel elsewhere in the Midwest.

"Drunken Billy Goat" is a collection of old-time tunes we've been playing a lot in recent years. Most we have learned from friends here and there. "Sweet Bundy," "White River Bottom," "Peck O'Mant," and "Wounded Hussar" all came from the playing of our friend Lotus Dickey of Paoli, Indiana. "Bruce's Return" was written by John Bealle for his friend Bruce Miller around 1983. "Red Mountain Rag" was composed in 1991 for friends in Birmingham, Alabama, who used to dance on Red Mountain. "Orace" was written in 1992 in memory of Orace Johnson.
