Album Notes

Quiddity; noun; inflected forms: pl .quid-di-ties 1. The real nature of a thing; the essence. 2. A hairsplitting Distinction; a quibble.

True essence, something we all search for. We do it through our relations with friends and family, or we do it through travel or art. But this is about someone who is seeking it through music. The musician is Seeking Quiddity. the name implies the inherent quest, for the real nature of one’s self. music that comes from your soul is something that can transcend the corporeal and the reality of perception and sometimes give us a tiny peek into the depths of ourselves and others. To understand one’s self is the driving force behind all of the actions of the human creature, we all desire to transcend ourselves away from the mundane and shallow and to perhaps see into our own soul. This is why we are all Seeking Quiddity.

This album, self titled, Seeking Quiddity is the culmination of several years of self exploration and musical expression. Its thirteen tracks, with a few fun exceptions, are the offspring of a personal journey through the turbulent waters of a normal life. I will not try to label the music of Seeking Quiddity, as on the whole, the musician transcends any one genre. Each song is unique, stylistically each one differs from the last or next. The music constantly shifts into and out of various traditional styles as the emotional content itself changes.

The Sea of Quiddity, from the works of the fantasy/horror master Clive barker, has its influences felt in this music. the Sea of Quiddity is a place that we only ever visit three times in our lives. The night we are born, when we first sleep next to our true love, and the night we die. In these moments we are brought into the sea of dreams where we see and become what we truly are in our hearts. This music is an attempt to perhaps peek into that world, searching for even a fleeting glimpse of the truth of being.

Wow. I have a hard time putting my feelings about this CD into words, to be quite honest. It's light and melodic but still lyrically intense. Definitely a great showcase of the amazing skill range that SQ has to offer, from the beautiful (Whispers, Midnight Ride) to the rediculous (Ode to Lisa).

Seeking Quiddity is more likely than not an artist you have not heard of, but one you will be glad you have found after you hear some of his music and buy his CD. The CD is amazing from start to finish, with several different styles and even genres of music all mixed in one smooth flowing album. My personal favorites for songs are Midnight Ride, Tautology, and Under the Stars. However, all the songs are amazing, even the two funny songs on the album. I can't say too much, since this review must be short, but listen to some of the music, buy the CD, and be happy you're one of the first to discover an amazing new artist and own a refreshingly original and satisfying CD.
