It all began one morning in January 2011, when a 3 year old boy tragically did not wake up in the morning. One of his older brothers is a student of mine in the 4th grade, and we decided as a class to compose a song in memory of this sweet and adorable child. The Hebrew words the older brother chose are translated and transliterated below, and are a part of the Jewish morning prayers. In essence, we thank G-D for giving us our soul, and even though there are times some of us need to go back to Him, we know that in the near future with the coming of Moshiach we will all be together again.
After I came up with a melody in front of the boys, we fit the words in properly and tried it out. It was still missing something. I put together an introduction that evoked feelings of sadness and hope, and then we added in some English words. Originally I wanted to have the boys sing it, but due to some shyness and time constraints this did not pan out yet. We’re still working on that. Using my Tyros 4, DX-7, QY700 and SY-99 I put this together. (I’m a big Yamaha fan!)
Here are the Hebrew Words:
אלקי, נשמה שנתת בי טהורה היא. אתה בראתה, אתה יצרתה, אתה נפחתה בי, ואתה משמרה בקרבי, ואתה עתיד לטלה ממני, ולהחזירה בי לעתיד לבוא. כל זמן שהנשמה בקרבי, מודה אני לפניך, ד' אלקי ואלקי אבותי, רבון כל המעשים, אדון כל הנשמות.
Here is the Translation:
My God, the soul You placed within me is pure. You created it, You formed it, You breathed it into me, and You guard it while it is within me. One day You will take it from me, and restore it to me in the time to come. As long as the soul is within me, I will thank You, HaShem my God and God of my ancestors, Master of all works, Lord of all souls.
Here is the Transliteration:
Elokai, neshama sh'nasta be, tehora he. Atta v'rasa, atta yitzarta, atta nifachta be. V'atta meshamrah b'kirbe v'atta asid litla memehne u'lihachazera be l'asid lavo. Kol zman sh'haneshama b'kirbe, modeh ani lifanecha, Hashem elokai v'elokai avosai, Ribbon kol ha'maasim, Adon kol haneshamos.
Here are the English Words
HaShem is watching me, I’m never alone. And in the future he may call me to his throne. Only to return again, ‘Cuz every Yid (Jew) does know. Moshiach is coming soon, B’chol Yom Sheyovoh! (Every day we are waiting)
Every single second; every single day, I give my thanks to you, I cry I pray. A Neshomo (soul) is our link connecting us to you, Hakodosh Baruch Hu (G-D is blessed)
I hope you enjoy the song and can feel the emotion that is inside of it.
