Album Notes

Who is RachelAPP?:

RachelAPP plays a mix of off-kilter beats, dirty guitars and quirky vocals - some have quite aptly described it as "minimalist post-punk". Utilising her very unusual voice, she crafts tales about loss, anger and social attitudes.

Debut album - Fire in my head

Recorded in two months in the summer of 2005, this mixes up her influences with the voices in her head. Some guitars hint towards The Distillers, some keyboard sounds are reminiscent of Le Tigre, and some beats are simply completely out there.

Lyrics tackle various subject matters, with a strong sense of irony. Life is serious enough as it is, there's no point in taking it too seriously!

What others said about her music

Everett True (Plan B Magazine, April/May 2005 issue) "You ever have that dream where Polly Harvey is sitting sullenly in the corner of a party, unknown to anyone? That one in Camden where Melt-Banana compete for stereo space with Layra Nyro, and three drunken members of Silverfish wrestle a Melody Maker journalist? Oh wait. That happened. RachelAPP is far better than even she suspects - political vitriol coached with dirty guitars and Olympia vocals. 'Burstin' EP' (Cats Rock The Boat) will haunt me in years to come. Don't think it won't."

"DIY queen RachelAPP rocks the house with raw wit and six strings. Fans of Pacific Northwest labels like K and Kill Rock Stars will find a kindred spirit in these bare-bones post-punk indie nuggets. The world can keep Beyonce, we're sticking with RachelAPP." Editor's Highlight on music.download.com

REVIEWS

Lo-fi indie punk gem
author: James R
With a guitar and a piece of string, Rachel creates her own universe. Well, not really a piece of string but a drum machine, a bass (i think) and some keyboards. Her voice is a bit unsettling at first (especially because of her french accent) but then it really grows on you. It's super catchy but the lyrics are very dark in places. A bit of electro here and there (especially on "Brainless) but mostly it's punk and indie. Guitars drive most songs and she throws in some really cool riffs, especially on "My Pain" and "More Sugar". "Not Much" has got some funny lyrics about putting up with your friends talking complete nonsense.
