---------------

Rachel Bissex is an award-winning* songwriter with a flair for witty lyrics and great melodies. Her fifth and latest release features many songs arranged for orchestra, and the themes are uplifting and full of hope despite adversity.

Bissex finished treatments for breast cancer in December of 2003. Through lumpectomy, chemotherapy, radiation, and hormone therapy she maintained her positive spirit with the help of friends and a support group. She's on the good side of the statistics, and is happy to be back on the music circuit in 2004.

She has a role in the feature film Nothing Like Dreaming, by Vermont filmmaker Nora Jacobson of OfftheGridProductions.com, which is currently in post production. The film follows a young girl's struggle through a tragedy, and features several songs written by Rachel, who plays the mother of the young woman.

Ms. Bissex's work has carried her from her Boston roots, Miami to Madison to San Antonio to San Diego, and she also loves to play her unique and contemporary style of folk singing in Vermont, her home since 1977.

Loved it! During a recent Spiritual Retreat, the instructor used "In White Light" as our closing song for obvious reasons. The song is very moving.

  • Awesome Love it.

A very touching and thoughtful album. Great voice and playing and great back up musicians. There is nothing I did not like about it.

  • Poignant and evocative songs that shows she was truly standing in the light!
    author: Mr. Curt

From the opening strains of "In White Light", a peaceful maternal ode recorded with the Vermont Youth Orchestra, Rachel was preparing a meditative and transcendent journey through times of doubt and moments of acceptance. An absolutely gorgeous beginning to her final album. Then, songs such as "Waitin' On the Rain", "Into My Arms", "Standing in the Dark", and "Never Go Back" create a poignant and touching aura, highlighted by her delicate contemplative singing and the resonant instrumentation. Truly her finest moments as a singer-songwriter. The orchestrated concluding track, "Dancing with My Mother", written over ten years ago for an earlier album, brings the circle complete. I was emotionally in pieces. A talent like hers will surely be missed.

  • A light-filled masterpiece.

If an artist has to leave their mark on this earth before leaving, then this is cd's lasting impression will be one that will enternally flower. This listener feels that Rachel somehow knew that this would be her last effort and created In White Light as a song of life and life's renewal. She is now walking in white light and wanted to let us know that someday we all will join her. Thank you Rachel!

  • Rachel was a very insightful writer.
    author: Wayne Sweeney

As a father of a son who served in Irag, In White light came through with all the emotion his mom and I felt. Every other cut was outstanding, and the youth orchestra takes them through with a good groove.

  • A beautiful period to a short sentance
    author: Myra Symons-Kazanci

Considdering this is her last work and keeping that in mind while you listen, makes this a very meaningful work indeed. She will be missed. This was a good ending yes, but it came all too soon.

  • I knew I would love it beforeI ordered it

Because I made sure to always make to church or to Kerrville to hear her sing, I knew I would love this cd. I only put off buying it because I wanted to buy it in person from Rachel. I will miss her dearly and I know that she is walking in white light. There are alot of us in TX who miss her already.
