Album Notes

"Mind" is the debut album by the trio, with Rachel on piano, Kevin Thomas on bass, and Chris Benham on drums. It features the compositions of all three and offers sensitive artistry paired with ear-catching melodies. The trio originated in Las Vegas and has been performing since 1997.
Rachel Eckroth, originally from Phoenix, Arizona, now resides in the New York area. Her musical pursuits began at a young age, first through singing, then the piano. She learned early to express herself through music and soon became dedicated to the art of composition and improvisation.

"...the pianist's writing, touch, and ideas all loom large." -Jazziz Magazine

"...a composer/performer obviously influenced and firmly rooted in the tradition yet makes her own statement in a uniquely elegant manner."

I love piano. If you do too, Rachel won't let you down. The rest of the band is good as well, but the piano steals the show. Wish she'd sing more.

Refreshing and I'm smiling as I write this

I'm listening to "Camping" right now, and I very much enjoy this album. Rachel and her group are quite talented, and I'm glad I found this. I have a lot of Monk, Miles Davis, etc. and though I love their music, their day is done, trapped in time, and I feel we should seek out new talented artists with much to say, such as Rachel Eckroth. She doesn't just repeat what Monk or anyone else have already said-she has her own voice, and I wish her well.

Relaxed and self-assured, with a fresh harmonic sensibility.

Relaxed and self-assured playing, with no irritable, frenzied showboating. The harmonies sound fresh. The production quality is exquisite: a delight to the ear!

Ms. Eckroth is an unbeliebably creative and effective composer of great distinction and originality. Every song is full of space and openness, enabling the trio to take advantage of the openness from within and explore their own individual voices as well as collaborate in the vision of Ms. Eckroth. And when they swing, they swing hard and concisely. Highly recommended!
