Album Notes

Shortly after the band formed they entered a local radio contest on KIRO 97.3fm called Make or Rake the Band. Local bands from all over the Seattle area submitted their songs for listeners to vote on. By thousands of votes they not only won the preliminary round of voting, but they won the whole contest. They were invited down to the station where they played an acoustic set live for thousands of listeners and in the winter of 2008 the band recorded this album to satisfy the overwhelming requests from fans for music they could buy.

The title track 'Circle on the Floor' is a tribute to the Grand Ole Opry. Rachel wrote it on the cab ride home after her first visit to the Opry. Rachel describes it as a life changing moment when the curtains opened revealing to her for the first time the circle on the floor of the historic stage. " I knew in that moment I was in the presence of something amazing. It was almost as if and all of those artists that at one point stood in that circle and taught me to love country music were smiling on me and saying come and get it girl, you just have to believe you can! I remember that feeling every time I sing Circle on the Floor. I just know that if it takes me the rest of my life to get there, I WILL some day make it to that circle on the floor! I just feel it in my gut!"

Ten of the eleven tracks on the album are originals by Rachel Mae. The album reflects her ability as a songwriter as she makes you laugh and smile with songs like ' Don't Call Me Crazy' and brings tears to your eyes as she describes the loss of her Mom with the raw acoustic version of 'Mama's Song'. The first track on the album 'Don't Break My Heart' features and was written by fellow songwriter and veteran of the blues, her dad David Brewer, proving this truly is a family tradition.

This album is just a taste of what the Rachel Mae Band is all about, honoring country musics roots playing old school straight forward honkytonk with the focus on strong lyrics that folks can relate to.
