notes
Raelyn was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she attended the School of the Arts program from second grade through high school. Her harp studies began there at age 11. Her original teacher, Jeanne Henderson, graduate of the Julliard School of Music, taught Raelyn in the Grandjany style, continuing through her second year of college. Raelyn went on to study for two years of Music Composition at Belmont University, in Nashville, Tennessee, where the Belmont New Music Ensemble performed three of her compositions (two for harp). More recently she studied harp at San Jose State University, where she graduated in 1999 with a BA in Music--Harp Performance. Karen Thielen, distinguished as a harpist for Opera San Jose and Monterey Symphony, taught her the Salzedo technique at SJSU.
Raelyn has performed harp professionally in the California Bay Area and the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan area for numerous parties, special events, and orchestra/choir groups, including: the Nova Vista Symphony, Monterey Symphony, Don Haneke Chorale, San Jose State Choraliers, Peninsula Youth Orchestra, Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, San Jose Youth Orchestra, and the Winchester Orchestra. She has appeared as the regular harpist at San Jose, CA area restaurants "Gervais" and "Pastas".
