Album Notes

"Having known and admired Julie Rafferty for some years now, I was honored to be asked by her to write the arrangements and perform for this recording. For me, Julie has always had three distinct musical qualities that set her apart: first is her selection of material; her integrity to the melody of a tune; and her unique vocal sound and phrasing. Add to that she is a class-act lady and good friend." -Barney McClure Fairbanks, Alaska has been my home for the last 25 years, and despite the brutal winters I've found no finer place. I grew up in Seattle, ventured north to Alaska and worked summers in Glacier Bay National Monument and Denali National Park. Eventually, I settled in Fairbanks which is the next "big town" north of Denali. Music has always been an anchor in my life, and I am delighted to say it continues to ground me in Alaska. I've performed folk, rock, cabaret and musical theatre in various venues and for the past 10 years concentrated on singing jazz/standards. I've been a featured vocalist with trios, combos and orchestras, entertaining throughout Washington, Alaska and Canada. "No Finer Place" is recorded in an easy jazz/pop style and I am thrilled it features some of Alaska's finest musicians: Barney McClure: piano and B-3 Hammond John Keech: bass Dom Moio: drums Ron Veliz: guitar, percussion Jason Slats: saxophone, clarinet Scott Deal: percussion Many know of Alaska's scenic beauty and I encourage you to come see for yourself. Until then, check out the high quality of music our state has to offer.
