fresh ideas, groovy tunes, a milestone in the asian underground scene...

  • Renaissance of the Asian Underground
    author: Martin

This album generally sounds unlike anything I've heard before. Despite that, it is not completely alien to the Asian Underground as we know it, it rather is a renaissance of the same, an avatar for the new millenium, and it comes from Singapore, who would have expected that?

  • its great stuff man

One of the best DJ Sets I’ve heard in the last 12 months…you’re about to hear one of the most interesting, most ambitious, most perfectly beat matched Friday Night Hot Mix we’ve ever had on this show.” ~ DJ Adil Ray, The Adil Ray Show, BBC UK Asian Network, 17th Feb. ‘06

  • r-H may help put Singapore on the world's musical map
    author: www.earball.net

As Blackasia's flangey intro bleeds into "Bollywood Lust," you know you're in for a ride. Electronica blends with strings, male qawwali-style singing is puncturated by female moans, tabla and drumkit dance together. The global style and outlook of pruducer r-H put everything into play. Electronic and acoustic instruments meet in a masala of Asian grooves, all anchored by infectuous dance beats. Highllights include the mellower "Lemon Grass" and the tabla-meets-Dobro tune "Indian Blues." And turntable fans will dig the wild collage of "Sushi," complete with J-pop girl vocals, shamisen, growly Sumo shouts, and of course those beats. Borrowing, like his nation-state, from across South Asia, r-H may help put Singapore on the world's musical map.

  • This is good music right here

I had to take a listen to this CD from Singapore after getting the promotional email. To my surprise it was very very nice. I like it alot.

  • Magical, sexy, mysterious, inspiring...
    author: Wasim Muklashy

Magical, sexy, mysterious, inspiring...and sometimes downright eerie indian rhythnms and eastern percussions layered over break beats, drum n bass beat, electro beats, and somehow, someway, it all sounds like it's meant to be that way...meant to be together. A native of Singapore, and a veteran DJ and emcee, Rajesh Hardwani, as a memeber of the military for a brief stint, was infected with the travel bug and has been infected from coast to coast, ocean to ocean, by all the worldly influence he was able to absorb. he records sounds and rhythms and ideas from around the world under a variety of differenct circumstances, and fuses them all together into beautiful pieces, 17 of which are showcased on BlackAsia Volume 1. I can't wait for Volume 2.

  • Just excellent
    author: Jignesh Patel

Never have I heard such great Asian fusion before. It's very well done and I hope there is more in store. Indian Blues is simply amazing.

  • Onmin te moeilijk
    author: dj Kamisetti, dJOGI, NL.

This album is an amazing cross-fertilization of different Asian influences, and ingeniously reflects the cultural mix-up Singapore lives in…. Speaking about Asian fusion funk...dammit…, this cd will def. be worn out of being played too many times, will seriously need to make a backup copy …. Hope to see u perform in Rotterdam soon!

  • Rajesh Hardwani is what the initials stand for
    author: Bill Ribas

Rajesh Hardwani is what the initials stand for, a man who once wanted to be a dj, but on this disc, found himself on the production end of things. And the 17 cuts here never lack for interest, partly due to rh's scavenging abilities. Seems he has assembled not just the beats, but the instrumentation that goes on top. Now that instrumentation might be an instrument found in Japan, or China, or India, or in Arabic cultures. Simply put, you never know what to expect. The result, however, is seamless. Far be it from me to be a fan of electronica, but the diversity on these tracks is captivating. On "Indian Blues," for example, a delta blues guitar starts up, and is then overlaid with what sounds like a bus terminal. Then the drums come in, Indian drums that is, and all of a sudden it's the wildest thing you've ever heard. And, sure, some of the 30-second interludes are merely filler, but when r-h is on his game, the songs are damned interesting. Though his website was listed as www.rh.hk, I could never get it to fire up properly. Maybe you can.

  • Attempting to eliminate the stigma
    author: J. Sin

Attempting to eliminate the stigma that comes with black folks in Asia, r-H uses ethnic sounds that are notably Asian sounding overtop of hip-hop beats and jungle breaks. While the influences are worldwide including Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Arabian, and Malaysian, the mixes deliver a right-here-at-home feel with acid jazz likeness. Not only will this album light up the trendy downtown downtempo clubs but it’s sure to fit well with most people’s home stereos as they entertain guests or just chill out.

  • What a show!!!
    author: Meenakshi

r-H's live performance is fantastic! He has the guts to break all the rules with his mix of ethnicity and crazy loud thumping beats. And with his fellow performers, Prana, they make the best music I have heard so far! I will be there for his his next gig...that's for sure!

  • REAL Asian underground
    author: Pooja Rai

This is the real Asian underground CD. r-H successfully blends all elements of 'Asianism' into electronica and other genres and breaks the rules, or breaks ground, set by UK's Asian underground scene. This is superb.
