notes

"Death by Candy," combines the melodicism of "Ultrasound" (1998) with the grittier guitar textures of Silver's "You & Me & Hell" (1995)--witty, insightful slices of pop all sung with soul and open-hearted grace.

The songs of "Death By Candy" work together as an integrated whole and while there are obvious standout singles like the lyrical "The Saint of 99," featuring Silver's luxuriously luscious vocals, or the gorgeously delicate "Motherbee," the disc tastes best when swallowed whole.

The melodic highs and the gentle breezes of a song like "Residue"--as pretty a song as you will hear all year--go down better juxtaposed with the funky, rock solid "Renter's Hell" and "Care Package," on which the singer gets down and dirty.

Buy this well crafted CD. Polished and well written songs. This is a group of real musicians. This album is an example of the magic of being a musician: being able to condense so much vibrant sonic information in a little 3-4 minute package for each song. This CD is an upper, not a downer. positive. nice female voice and awesome harmonies, rockin guitars with just enough attitude and bite. Manatee even has a real sample of ocean waves- arty and thoughtful. Death by Candy is a great song and i LOVE the changes. the whole cd is tight. They're a great live band too, real talents and character, and color. The other cd's are also exceptional.

  • please, no reviews yet?: just plain Wrong.

I've had this cd since it came out. I have 1000s of cds/albums/cassettes, I've heard a LOT of music, and not to toot my own horn but really, I simply KNOW that this cd is better than so many out there. All genre descriptions are so overused as to have become practically useless but just trust me, there is good, poppish-with-edge, but more tuneful than edge-ful, -- music on this cd. I think you'll like it. And she's a nice woman. She answered my e-mail and I'm just a fan who's never met her and that I promise you is the truth.
